Worms 3D its a blast!
Ubi Soft has signed the first 3D Worms game ever made. CVG gives you world-first details and all the goss surrounding the project
Team17 is at it again. Worms is loved by practically every self-respecting gamer as one of the most enjoyable titles they first cut their PlayStation teeth on, and one of the only strategy games that truly works on a console. It had been known for some time that the developer would bring the traditionally 2D series into the realms of the third dimension with the games next instalment, but was unwilling to discuss details until today.
Ubi Soft announced this morning that it has grabbed the publishing rights to the PlayStation 2, PC, Game Boy Advance and Gamecube title. Titled Worms Blast, the game was signed off internally last October and, officially, will be released this autumn: Team17 told us today that it expects the PC and PlayStation 2 versions to ship before the end of the year, with the Gamecube and Game Boy Advance outings hitting in early 2002.
Now get this: Worms Blast is to make the move from turn-based play to full real-time action, a real departure from the traditional Worms formula. "Its a different direction for Worms but its got everything familiar from previous games," a spokesperson for the developer told CVG today. Multiplay will still be included.
A far heavier emphasis will be placed on characters in the new game all based on weapons and worms from previous titles - and Team17 even hinted at a plot today. Expect plenty of puzzles to solve and a chance to get to grips with the likes of Chuck the homing pidgeon, Rocky the concrete donkey, the already famous Boggy B, Fletcher the mole, Calvin the super sheep, Stavros the stinky skunk, Suzette (an obvious love interest for Boggy
