In dat geval is het niet iets dat het waard is om je zorgen over te maken. Inhoudelijk is dit verhaal al meerdere keren voorbij gekomen. Dit soort berichten worden meestal tegelijkertijd naar heel veel adressen gestuurd en ooit zal zo'n chantage misschien het gewenste schrikeffect hebben, meestal helemaal niet. Vooral niet op reageren, ook niet met een spottende opmerking in de trant van "Ik heb je wel door". Want dan weten ze dat die ongein is aangekomen en loop je kans om voortdurend wordt lastig gevallen.

Dit bericht wordt al een hele tijd ook in het Nederlands verspreid. Verschillende versies, dat wil zeggen met of zonder vermelding van het gekraakte wachtwoord. Met dat wachtwoord dat nog klopt ook (zelf nooit gehad) zal natuurlijk soms het schrikeffect veel groter zijn.

Het bericht vermeldt zowel bij Van/From als bij Aan/To het e-mailadres van de geadresseerde. Een koud kunstje trouwens en iets wat niet iedereen meteen opmerkt. Daar word je dus niets wijzer van, Ze speculeren er echter op dat veel beoogde slachtoffers nog nooit van zoiets als broncode heeft gehoord dan wel dat veel mensen daar nooit inkijken. Mogelijk dat in die broncode toch wel bepaalde adressen kunnen worden gevonden waar je wat aan hebt. Het kan best zijn dat de afzenders dáár net niet slim genoeg voor zijn om dat te beseffen, of ze mikken juist op wat naïeve slachtoffers, die zijn het gemakkelijkst te manipuleren. Zelfde als bij de telefoontjes zogenaamd van Microsoft. Die verknoeien ook geen verdere tijd, is althans mijn ervaring, als je reageert met zoiets als "please, not again".

Het is te hopen dat deze vragen sarcastisch zijn bedoeld, want stel dat iemand ze serieus opvat en werkelijk contact zoekt met die lui en bereid is een vermogen te betalen (om er vervolgens helemaal niets voor terug te krijgen). Is een kwestie van een database kopen met gekaapte zooi en dan een simpel scriptje schrijven, maar vervelend is het zeker.
