Hardware
With correct installation, all current Logitech pointing device hardware will function with Windows 2000. Logitech pointing devices utilize Windows 2000 internal (native) drivers. These drivers support all 3 buttons of a Logitech pointing device, and also have native support for wheel/roller function.
However, these drivers do NOT offer button assignments, such as a middle button double-click, cut, paste, and other assignments. Those features are offered though our MouseWare® software. Please refer to the next section regarding software.
NOTE: Older Logitech C-Series devices connected to the serial port are not supported under Windows 2000 since they use the Mouse Systems hardware protocol. C-Series devices can be identified by the following model numbers (M/N), located on the bottom of the device: T-CA1, C7, CA, CC, and CE. Please note the CA and CE also support PS/2 mouse port connections and will function under Windows 2000, as long as they are connected via the PS/2 mouse port.
Software
Logitech has now released a version of MouseWare® that is compatible with Windows 2000. This software can be downloaded from the following URL:
http://www.logitech.com/cf/support/mousefiles_w2000.cfm
Important Information: Do not install any version of MouseWare 8.x (or earlier) into Windows 2000. It may crash your Windows 2000, forcing you to reinstall Windows 2000.
If you have installed MouseWare 8.x into Windows 2000, it is strongly recommended that you download the latest version of Logitech MouseWare from the URL listed above and install this release directly over the currently installed version. The installer for this release of MouseWare will automatically remove older MouseWare files, if necessary. Therefore, it is strongly recommended you do NOT uninstall your previous version of MouseWare before installing the latest version (9.24 or above). If the MouseWare installer does find and remove older files, you will be prompted to restart the system. After you have rebooted, re-run the MouseWare setup program to continue the installation of MouseWare.
