Howdy folks. I just purchased a new Gateway2000 P4, 1.7GHz. that didn't seem
any faster then the AMD, I GHz. that I upgraded from. I decided to benchmark
the computer and asked my son and a friend to benchmark their 1 GHz. systems
and they did.
We are all running WinMe, and used Norton SI and the P4,1.7 came it with
a score of 504, while the AMD 1 GHz got a score of 554 and the P3, 1GHz.
came in with a score of 585.
Then we all used Wintune the 1 GHz systems beat the 1.7 in both the CPU
Interger MIPS and CPU Floating Point MFLOPS but around 10-15%. They also
beat me in the (2D) video and the Open GL speeds.
Is anybody else noticed this same lack of speed or know what might be
done to correct it. I assumed that when Intel stated their computer ran at
1.7 GHz. that I would get a 70% increase in speed when I upgraded. The fact
is that I lost approx. 10% and this bothers me.
Intel says they won't take responsibility as Gateway has a license to
make changes to the bios and they don't know what they did. Gateway says
that they just put the parts together and it's not their problem.
We've tried a new MB, Ram and CPU and the test results are the same. We
fdisked and started over twice and installed drivers just the way Intel said
to and it's the same. We even flashed the bios and it's the same.
