My laptop keeps crashing on games such as The Witcher 3, Hitman and Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator if I put my graphics on anything higher than "Low". This is really quite annoying because I bought my laptop (GT62VR 6RE Dominator Pro) with gaming in mind and it doesn't even properly do so. And on top of all that, every game playable on this laptop crashes if put on 60fps, potato quality or not.

MSI GT62VR 6RE Dominator Pro
intel core i7 - 6700HQ @2.60 GHz
Nvidia GTX 1070 (8192 MB Dedicated)
RAM - 2x8 (16 GB)

I spent 2000 euros on this laptop hoping it could run games really smoothly, apparently I was wrong and I'd like to know what in the hardware is wrong. The thought has crossed my mind that the CPU isn't powerful enough but it automatically overclocks to 3.20 GHz and beyond, plus people online seem to be praising the 6700HQ for its amazing gaming possibilities. So if anyone could help me with this and find a possible solution that would be extremely appreciated as it would mean I didn't waste 2000 euros

PS: The start up time of my laptop also went down drastically when I kept saving (steam) games on my 256GB SSD drive so I had to save them all on a 1TB HDD, does anyone know what's up with that? And I've also checked wether the crashing is due to me placing games on an inferior HDD to my SDD but its not the case as my Witcher 3 game is on my SSD and it immediately crashes if put on higher setting than medium and if the fps are put on 60fps

PPS: Please don't judge me for buying an expensive laptop for gaming instead of going for a desktop, I'm new and I just wanted something I could play good games on and be able to take it with me.

Possibly a software(driver) issue.
Could you provide us some more detailed information regarding your current PC?
Like, which OS and drivers?

This isn't supossed to happen. At least not drastically.

Check if your power setting is at High Performance instead of Balanxed or Power Daver.
Alsof make dure that your games are using your graphics card andere not your onboard card

You may also contact the seller and/or MSI support, if it's a known problem, they'll be able to assist you as well.

But indeed, check power saving, plug in the cable and make sure you use the right graphics card.

And update all your drivers.

@Heathcliff456 As to your problem, is there any difference between when your laptop is plugged in to a power source or when you are running on the battery? A lot of laptops will not perform optimally when running on the battery as it can not always provide enough power. Also it might help to put the Windows power setting to high performance and install any BIOS updates for your main board and GPU that may be lagging behind. If nothing else helps, it is a relatively new machine and you can contact MSI to see if there is a possibility to get any help or even a replacing laptop if it is a hardware issue.

We zijn hier toch zeker niet te beroerd om de engelstalige medemens een helpende hand te geven?
Ik woon zelf ook in het buitenland en een beetje ondersteuning af en toe in het engels kan ECHT geen kwaad.

You could check the Event Viewer for logs regarding this crash. This might point us more in the right direction of whats causing it

It's on full performance with the option to automatically switch to power saving turned off so that's not the issue. And total noob question: how do I check wether or not my games are indeed using the graphics card and how do I change this might it be otherwise? Oh and I always keep my PC plugged in, otherwise it dies in about 2 hours and I can't check my battery percentage when gaming full screen.

Thank you. And when I say drastically I really do mean it, normal start up time (which it has right now because all my games are on my HDD) was around 10 seconds, after spending around 150 GB SSD on games, it could go up to a whopping 3 to 4 minutes, I kid you not...

And as for the drivers, I did recall reinsalling them once, but that was on a different PC which had an annoying checkerboard pattern over shadows and lighting in modern games. I do remember how much of a hassle it was to download them drivers though, only to find out my graphics card back then was just horribly outdated. So do you know of an easy quick way to update my drivers? The OS I'm working on is Windows 10 64 bit and I presume the normal Home edition.

As for my driver, the only one I know how to access is the one in my Geforce Experience which shows a Geforce Game Ready driver, currently at V382.05 (released on 05/04/2017) but after I'm done typing this message it'll go to the newest V385.28 (08/14/2017). I am a total noob when it comes to both hardware and software so I have no clue whatsoever as to how to check my drivers.

Update 1: I found how to check wether or not I'm actually using my dedicated video card and well, the good news is it's using the correct video card (Geforce instead of Intel HD), the bad news is this doesn't resolve the issue.

Update 2: I've found a way to easily upgrade my drivers (for anyone reading this later and wondering: just type "drivers" in the search bar and literally the first thing appearing is a tool to update everything). The only drivers in need of updating were my audio drivers, the chipset of my motherboard (Intel C230 I do believe), but none of it helped, I ran the Witcher 3 (a good game that is surprisingly low on system requirements compared to its graphics) on high quality and 60fps but got an instant crash, so it didn't have anything to do with my drivers.

Oh and for the record: I haven't contacted MSI yet because I have a panic fear of them saying something like: "we need you to send us your laptop for checking" and I really can't go a few days without it (I'm a student who has been studying for exams for the last 4 months). I also have horrible experiences with companies saying absolute BS when it comes to "repairing" my PC; I sent my previous laptop (an Alienware) to Dell because I broke the screen (completely my fault so I was well willing to pay around 250 euros for repairs) but suddenly they called me and apparently my laptop's motherboard was flooded (water damage, it had to be replaced completely). All my file were gone and they even got rid of my Dolby Digital studio which was a really neat tool for my audio and on top of all that, the original 250 went to 600 euros for something I never did but of course had no way to ever prove that I didn't do.

U can install the latest drivers by using Geforce Experience. Its Nvidia's optimization tool for optimizing games and also downloading the latest drivers.

As for the speed.
I do recall that SSD disks lose performance when they are over 90% full.
People try to suppres this by using what they called "Over provisioning"

see http://www.seagate.com/nl...oning-benefits-master-ti/ for details about it.

So if your SSD is more then lets say 75% full, it would be wise to cleanup old data and then apply over provisioning.

Upgraded my drivers through experience and all other possible drivers through the driver updater tool from windows but alas it was to no avail as my games run just as shitty as before but thanks for pointings that out anyway.

And thank you! That was indeed the problem back then I guess because I had only 12GB left on a 256GB SSD, so that explains the drastic cut in loading speeds. This also means I don't have to worry if only a few games are on my SSD.

Quick little update: updated all my drivers, updated my BIOS to the newest version, took up contact with microsoft (still waiting for a reply), looked and messed around a bit and I do believe I've been able to isolate the issue, though I don't know what to do about it. Every crash is followed by a bugreport: BugcheckCode 278 (0x116) and only a first Parameter: 0xffffb00cbdbd3010. I've looked around a bit on how to resolve this issue but I'm stumped so if anyone could help me wit that, that'd be amazing.

I also looked into the specs of my Laptop and the problem might lie in there: according to 3 different sellers, my RAM is a DDR4-SDRAM but my GPU is a GDDR5, I have no clue whatsoever about this, but does it mean there incompatible or is it merely correlation not causation?

I also found out my AC adapter works at 230W, 19.5V. Is it just me or is that far too low for a Laptop that has a GTX 1070 which is known for its 500W consumption??

Jeey, I finally found the issue, some games still crash but it seems that's because my GPU is usually working at 80% on some games and that's quite a lot.

The problem wasn't anywhere in my drivers or in my hardware, it was somewhere in the settings of my Nvidia control panel. My settings were forcing any game that didn't have a fps setting for itself to mimic the maximum fps of my screen, which is at 60Hz. While I understand that I have a powerful pc, gaming at 60Hz is just too much for it, hence why Witcher 3 and Hitman 2017 constantly kept crashing. Every other game that started crashing was just because my pc wouldn't let them work at anything lower than 60fps and when I switched it off, I was able to play Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator without it crashing in a 20.000 troop battle, the fps did go down to 15Hz, but at least it toook far longer for it to crash.

Did you try 2 run some older games that use less resources?
Like left 4 death 2?
If that one crash with high settings, than there is something wrong with the device.
You already updated the drivers
So I recommend you contact the manufacturer
