Adblocker uBlock Origin is beschikbaar voor Edge-gebruikers

De ontwikkelaar meldt dat 95 procent van de opensourcecode van de orginele uBlock-extensie in zijn versie is overgenomen. Daarmee reageert hij op kritiek dat het niet om een 'officiële' versie zou gaan.

Ik denk dat er wat verwarring is met uBlock, uBlock Origin en uBlock Origin Edge. Er wordt terecht gemeld dat uBlock Origin naar Edge is geport, maar de link in het artikel wijst naar de eerste uBlock, terwijl de uBlock Origin-fork is gebruikt voor de Edge-fork. Dit is ook te zien aan de repo

Misschien overkill, maar het conflict tussen gorhill en chris is ook misschien het vermelden waard:

• In a Wikipedia edit for uBlock, Chris removed all credits to Raymond [Hill, original author and owner of uBlock Origin] and added his name without any mention of the original author’s contribution.

• gorhill [Raymond Hill] got tired of dozens of "my facebook isnt working plz help" issues.
• he handed the repository to chrismatic [Chris Aljioudi] while maintaining control of the extension in the Chrome webstore (by forking chrismatic's version back to himself).
• chrismatic promptly added donate buttons and a "made with love by Chris" note.
• gorhill took exception to this and asked chrismatic to change the name so people didn't confuse uBlock (the original, now called uBlock Origin) and uBlock (chrismatic's version).
• Google took down gorhill's extension. Apparently this was because of the naming issue (since technically chrismatic has control of the repo).
• gorhill renamed and rebranded his version of ublock to uBlock Origin.

't is wel een beetje veel voor een FP-artikel, maar als het beleid van AdBlock Plus wordt vermeld is het ook redelijk om het beleid van uBlock vs uBlock Origin te melden.

Inderdaad, de link 'opensourcecode' verwijst naar de normale uBlock en niet naar uBlock origin, waar de Edge-port op gebaseerd is.

Thanks, heb de link inmiddels aangepast. Dat moest idd de andere repo zijn, my bad. Ik ga kijken of ik het conflict nog kort kan benoemen.

Bedankt! Het conflict zelf is wel moeilijk om in één zin op te sommen en er is geen Tweakers-artikel over het beleidsconflict, dus dat is een uitdaging
