WARNING: stolen hardware on marktplaats

Dear tweakers,

As some of you might have seen, in the last couple of weeks I have sold a number of Core i5-6600K and Core i7-6700K processors here in the V&A section. Some of the buyers wanted their items shipped via PostNL, so I shipped the processors using the "aangetekend paket" service. However, not all of the packages have made it through. As of today, I have eight undelivered packages, tracking status of which looks kind of like this:

Here is the interesting part.

A few days ago I spotted this ad for a Core i7-6700K on marktplaats and since I bin these CPUs anyway, decided to give it a go:

To my surprise, the processor offered by the seller was one of the processors that have recently gone missing with PostNL. I have verified this upon meeting the seller in person (the SN sticker on CPU box was missing but the last 5 serial number digits on the CPU were still present) who immediately ran away.

Therefore, I would like to advise fellow tweakers to be extremely cautious buying 6600K / 6700K processors on marktplaats and other local marketplaces in the coming days/weeks.
If it helps, the seller is a ~180cm relatively slim male, age 25-35, turkish-like appearance, short hair and trimmed beard, phone number 06167953xx, never picks up, calls you back from an anonymous number.

(obviously, I have already started all possible investigations with PostNL and the police, which is why I do not share all the package / phone data here in the thread).

This is true, een van de i7's had ik bij Semjon besteld, en was "per ongeluk" al na 3 dagen verdwenen.. PostNL doet niks, en in de tussentijd verliezen beide partijen.
Semjon was a good sport, en had direct mijn betaling terug betaald,bdus hulde voor hem, maar aan de andere kant, zwaar zuur dat ik nu voor een mooie deal mis liep, en Semjon nu hier weer achteraan moet gaan zitten..

I am unsure if the mods will agree/allow, but wouldn't it be a good idea to publish the list of S/N's gone missing? That way Google will index it and future buyers might be aware they are purchasing "lost goods". Maybe send gambieter a DM about it.

Personally, but that is me, I would also go to the police and file a report for each and every "stolen" CPU together with the description of the seller. As far as I know, you are no longer responsible for the correct shipping once the receiving post-office/person has done all the administration. But this might be a wrong assumption on my side.

PostNL and police can/should work together to find out how all these packages got "lost"; I can only assume one of the people in the chain linked to your post-office is involved somehow. The amount of packages is too much to be coincidence.

A list with serial numbers (partly or as a whole) might be useful, consider it like stolen art; after publishing, these cpu's are like plutonium, no-one can buy them without the risk of being prosecuted for the crime of receiving stolen goods.

-Why didn't you let them pay in advance?;
-Is this story about forgery by the receiver, claiming his money back after receiving the shipment?
-Or are the cpu's intercepted&stolen at PostNL (in the shipping/transport-process) and therefore lost, either by you and the intended receiver?

Al je vragen zijn al uit de allereerste post op te maken, meneer heeft CPU's verkocht aan mensen en deze zijn nooit bij de mensen aangekomen (had ze aangetekend verzonden via PostNL) en dus zijn ze waarschijnlijk tijdens het versturen vervreemd. Hij heeft een van deze CPU's toevallig herkent door hetzelfde S/N (via marktplaats) en dus is het aannemelijk dat ze door de koerier gestolen en doorverkocht zijn / worden.

That is quite the story, and I can't even believe that this has happend 8 times I can't help but think that your postoffice / some guy working there is the mastermind behind all this. The track and trace indicates that it has gone missing before it even arrived at the sorting center. PostNL should definetly do a big investigation on this matter. I have started PostNL investigations wherever I could, but for the last batch of packages I have to wait until Monday-Tuesday since PostNL do not accept claims if less than 5 workdays have passed since acceptance. Police have already been notified and I have already made an appointment to provide them with all information that I know early next week.

After losing two packages earlier in June, I made a detailed picture of each package and contents before shipping, to eliminate packaging or handwriting as a possible excuse for PostNL (even though, as you mentioned, everything relies on the barcode after the package has been accepted).

I'm not sure if posting full serial numbers is allowed by the law (as publishing details of an ongoing investigation), but here are the batch numbers:
6600K: L548B996
6700K: L547B847, L603F197, L603F483, L604F259, L604F286.
Note that the batch number is not unique, there might be dozens of CPUs with the same batch number in the country (for example, I had more than twenty L604F286s).
If you see one of those on sale on any marketplace, please let me know and I'll tell if it's one of my stolen chips or not. Another thing that I've seen when I met the thief is that he removed the barcode sticker off the box so all what you're left with to identify the SN are its last 5 digits printed on the PCB.

- All my buyers paid in advance and got tracking codes within minutes after the packages have been accepted by PostNL;
- This is a story about PostNL employee(s) stealing the packages at some point between postkantoor and the sorting centre and then trying to sell the items on marktplaats.

At first I had uninsured packages go missing, so I thought that adding insurance will give the thief less motivation to steal (since I hoped that PostNL would have a tighter control over the packages with insurance). Turns out I was wrong. Will still be interesting how the insurance claim comes out, with all the police complications.

How? If you get a T&T-number from the post-office, that usually means the goods were handed over to an employee, weighed, labeled and processed.

I do understand your concerns but I have some doubts about your statement mostly because topicstarter posted almost 125 ads on V&A alone (not counting other sites) and received 91 ratings based on that. To put it bluntly, if you want to try and steer the conversation towards the topicstarter not being completely honest, I am afraid you're outnumbered by the ratings (or the topicstarter is extremely desperate in selling a handful of CPU's for roughly 3K profit).

Just to add to this post: I can provide proof of shipping, upon request. I have already issued refunds for 5 out of 8 missing packages and three other buyers have already been offered refunds. I have sent them all a link to this thread (since they will be looking to buy similar CPUs from other sellers) as I am trying to keep things as transparent as possible.
If PostNL reject my insurance claims (and I see no reason for them to do so since items popped up on marktplaats) then I will be the one losing a couple of kiloeuros.

On top of this, PostNL have admitted that I am not the only victim and their local management is already aware of the issues.

Oh shit- Dikke excuus aan de rest, ik dacht te lezen dat het juist bezorgd was, omdat de grijze balk helemaal doorgetrokken was naar rechts met "bezorgd" eronder. Dan zou hij helemaal oranje moeten zijn- MIJN FOUT!!!

Ik zal mijn posts even editten, want ja- dan kun je er van uitgaan, dat zij onderweg pleite zijn geraakt (logisch.)
Toevallig heb ik een soortgelijk iets meegemaakt, maar dan met een pakket dat wel bezorgd was (bij derden), vandaar mijn tunnelvisie. Nogmaals: mea culpa!

@sam.ocx; did you mind to ship the package (with the Intel-logo) in a different box? Where the goods visible from the outside? Maybe a stupid question, but I'm wondering.

The only thing that unites all stolen packages is the low weight (100-250g range) and low volume. I had bigger and heavier packages shipped around the same time and they went through without a hitch.

Ten eerste gaat dit niet over V&A maar over Marktplaats. Daarnaast is de voertaal op Tweakers nog altijd Nederlands. Derhalve sluit ik dit topic. De waarschuwing is gedaan, de serienummers zijn bekend. Wees dus bedacht.
