Creating Red Book Masters in Itunes:
We have been getting a ton of requests on how to output masters from Itunes.
Mac computers and iTunes defaults are set below standards required for CD replication.
The Philips “Red Book Standard” for CD Audio replication is as follows:
• Sample Rate: 44.1 khz
• Sample Size: 16 bit
• Channels: Stereo
• Maximum Duration: 74 minutes
How to create replication masters from CD Audio files using iTunes:
1) Open Itunes:
In the Menu Bar
2) Click on ==> “Itunes (Mac) or Edit (PC)”
3) Click on==> “Preferences”
a new “General” preferences” window will open. •
4) In the 3rd column down you will see ““When You Insert A CD”” choose ===> “Ask to Import CD from the drop down menu .
5) Next to the drop down “Ask to Import CD” click on the button==> Import Settings
a new “Import settings” window will open.
6) Where it reads: “Import Using ”choose either “AIFF encoder” or “WAV encoder” from the drop down menu .
• Where it reads “Setting ”choose “Custom”
a new “ENCODER” window will open.
• Where it reads “Sample Rate ”choose “44.1” from the drop down menu.
• Where it reads “Sample Size”choose “16 bit” from the drop down menu.
• Where it reads “Channels ”choose “Stereo” from the drop down menu.
Click “==> OK to save these settings
Click “==> OK” on each open window to get back to the main iTunes window.
You are now ready to create your Red Book Standard CD Audio files from Itunes.
7) Insert a high grade CDR into your CD Drive

To create a new playlist
Click on ==> File
Click on ==> New Playlist
Title your playlist with your project name
Select your songs from your Music Library and drag and drop them in order into your project playlist
Once this is completed
9) Select your playlist
Click on ==> File
Click on ==> Burn playlist to disc
a new “Burn Settings” window will open.
• Where it reads “Preferred Speed ”choose “1x” from the drop down menu.
• Where it reads “Disc Format ”ensure Audio CD is chosen
• Where it reads “Gap Between songs ”choose “the amount of seconds you would like between each song from the drop down menu.
check ==> include CD text if you like
Click ==> Burn
Always keep the Master Copy yourself for safety/backup purposes and send us a copy – these are identical !
Once you have your Master and copies you should listen thoroughly from beginning to end (every single minute) for errors of any type.ONLY ONCE YOU ARE COMPLETELY SATISFIED (both the audio and the meta data) are you ready to submit your Master copy for replication.
