Ubuntu 14.04 Samba crasht.

Sinds het uitkomen van Ubuntu 14.04 LTS probeer ik mijn bestaande oude XP computer te laten draaien onder Ubuntu. Het doel van deze machine is tweeledig: het afspelen van allerlei media in de huiskamer en dienen als fileserver in ons thuisnetwerk. Zowel voor het streamen van media bestanden naar andere computers als bestand synchronisatie/ backup.
Als afspeelapparaat functioneert de machine zowel onder XP als onder Ubuntu uitstekend. Echter als fileserver laat Ubuntu flinke steken vallen, waar XP prima functioneert. Strijk en zet crasht samba, waarna ik vanuit mijn andere computers geen contact meer krijg met de Ubuntu computer. Herstart vereist.... Dit is erg vervelend als je een filmpje kijkt!
Ubuntu geeft de melding dat er een systeemfout is opgetreden en wil dan een foutrapport versturen. Hoe vaak ik nu al mijn samba config verstuurd heb......
Omdat ik wilde uitsluiten dat er een hardware probleem bestaat op mijn toch oude computer, heb ik dezelfde distributie geïnstalleerd op een laptop. Precies dezelfde problemen!

Dit zijn mijn vragen: Zijn er andere mensen die deze problemen herkennen?
Is er een workaround of oplossing bekend? In ieder geval niet bij Ubuntu...
Waar en hoe kan ik zoeken naar oplossingen? Ik heb geprobeerd om de Samba config file te lezen, maar wat daar staat is koeterwaals voor mij.
Is er iemand die weet of dit probleem ook bestaat onder Mint? Of een andere distributie die ik als Linux beginner kan aanpakken? Na een half jaar gedoe zonder oplossing voor een basis functionaliteit ben ik rijp om Ubuntu te gedag te zeggen..

Ik hoop dat iemand mij verder kan helpen.

Heb zelf hier 14.04 met meerdere pc's samba en dit werkt goed, misschien ligt het aan de andere pc/laptop, of de combinatie hiervan.
Je zou debian kunnen proberen, die liggen meestal achter met vernieuwingen, ook met software liggen ze achter, maar wel heel stabiel.

De eerste link lijkt op mijn gedoe, de tweede link is meer een mount over netwerk issue.
Maar inderdaad in beide artikelen wordt beweerd dat 14.04 een zwakte vertoont met samba.
Misschien moet ik idd omzien naar een andere distributie. Toch bizar, juist netwerken is altijd een sterk punt geweest van Linux.

Je hebt je config al meerdere malen opgestuurd, maar verzuimt vervolgens die hier te plaatsen. Wat is je config? En hoe crasht Samba precies? Wat zie je in de logs? Met de standaard config en gewoon shares toevoegen zou geen crash moeten veroorzaken, tenzij je tegen een bug aan loopt dat specifiek voor Ubuntu geldt. Als je besluit om over te stappen naar een andere distro, is Debian een goede keus, omdat het praktisch hetzelfde werkt mbt package management enzo.

Ubuntu is net als Fedora een beetje 'bleeding edge' soms.
Ik draai zelf Fedora en vaak worden dit soort foutjes snel verholpen.
Heb je alle updates geinstalleerd? ( apt-get update; apt-get upgrade ) Het kan zijn dat er een update is die dit probleem verhelpt, soms ook wordt het juist veroorzaakt door een recente update. Je kan dan eventueel een package downgraden of juist een package uit de 'testing' repo halen.

Wat ik in beeld krijg is een systeemmelding van Ubuntu dat er een probleem is ontstaan en dat ze willen dat er een foutrapport wordt verstuurd. Dit doe ik, en vervolgens wordt mijn toestemming gevraagd om een Samba file mee te sturen. Vandaar mijn conclusie dat het Samba die crasht. Deze meldingen volgen altijd nadat een van mijn Windows machines het contact met de netwerkshare is verloren.

"Wat zie je in de logs?" Geen idee. Waar vind ik die?

"Met de standaard config en gewoon shares toevoegen zou geen crash moeten veroorzaken, tenzij je tegen een bug aan loopt dat specifiek voor Ubuntu geldt." En toch loop ik tegen dit probleem op. Met drie installaties, op twee verschillende systemen!

Ik hoop hiermee iets verder te komen?

@ Ploink : idd ik verwachtte dat dit snel opgelost zou zijn. Net na het uitkomen van een nieuwe versie zie je wel vaker regressies. Maar ik ben nu meerdere maanden verder. Beide Linux Ubuntu installaties zijn volledig bij met de updates.

Ik heb eerst maar even je post bewerkt, want om na elke nieuwe regel een extra witlijn te posten, is absurd. We willen ons scrollwiel langer blijven gebruiken dan vandaag. Daarbij de config in [code] tags gezet, dat maakt het een heel stuk leesbaarder. Graag in 't vervolg hieraan denken. En leer de rest van de UBB codes, zoals [quote]. Dat maakt het een stuk vriendelijke om je replies te lezen.

Nu dan je probleem. Ik zie geen shares in je smb.conf, het bestand waar ze normaal gesproken in worden gezet. Wat heb je gedeeld? Alleen je printer? En hoe heb je anders een map gedeeld? Ik weet dat grafische tools niet altijd het gewenste resultaat geven, maar Windows doet soms ook raar.

De log entries zeggen mij helaas niet erg veel. Kijk eens in /var/log/syslog, messages of voer het commando 'dmesg' uit (zonder quotes) zodra 't gebeurt.

Dat zijn logfiles van apport (Ubuntu crash handler), logischerwijs geven die niet veel inhoudelijke info, alleen waar dat wel te vinden is.

De output van:

apport-retrace --sandbox=system --stdout /var/crash/_usr_sbin_smbd.0.crash

is waarschijnlijkt een stuk nuttiger, en dan alleen om vergelijkbare bugs op de tracker van Ubuntu te vinden.

Anyhow is het daar aankaarten waarschijnlijk een stuk nuttiger, het enige dat men hier kan doen is helpen zoeken of je bug al in de tracker voorkomt.

Nee, de bugtracker. Maar dan moet je ze wel heel duidelijk vertellen wat het probleem is, en daar wringt de schoen ben ik bang.

Plus dat de kans bestaat dat iemand dezelfde bug al heeft gerapporteerd, vandaar dat het commando dat ik eerder gaf zou kunnen helpen om vast te stellen of dat het geval is (op basis van de backtrace die het output).

Ik zie geen reden van crashen in dmesg terugkomen. Ik zie wel een zooi apparmor entries, maar doen verders ook niets. Misschien dat je wat meer kan vinden /var/log/samba/. Elke client krijgt ook z'n eigen log bestand, dus wie weet vind je daar nog wat in terug.


Je hebt het nou overigens al 2 keer gedaan: bewerk je post als je wat hebt toe te voegen en je bent de laatste die heeft gereageerd. Die melding staat voor een reden boven de quick reply!

En ja, ik deel je angst dat ik bij de Ubuntu bugtracker op communicatie problemen zal stuiten.

Het installeren van nss-myhostname heeft inderdaad niets opgeleverd. Sudo apt-get update en ugrade evenmin.

Dat is niet vreemd, want dat is de panic handler van samba. Die zie je terug in veel meer backtraces.

In frame #11 krijgt E_md4hash een nullpointer arg. Dat argument is afkomstig van lp_servicename() in create_volume_objectid.

Zelfde bug gevonden op de Ubuntu bugtracker:smbd crashed with SIGABRT in push_ucs2_talloc()/lp_servicename returns NULL

TS, doe eens hetzelfde als in die bugtracker entry, en post de output van:

$ sudo testparm -s

Er gaat iets mis met een servicename (maar geen idee wat dat is in de context van samba, een share?).

Doe eens het volgende type:

hostname -s
hostname -d
hostname -fqdn
hostname -y

wedden dat die laatste fout gaat.
op te lossen door, of apt-get install nis of draai deze even :
echo "kernel.domainname=`hostname -d`" > /etc/sysctl.d/00-domainname.conf
MITS je hostname -d klopt.

gebruik geen .local voor je domainnaam( dat is gereserveerd voor mDNS/ZeroConf )
gebruik geen .lan zelfde verhaal.

controleer /etc/hosts als er nog ergen 127.0.1.1 instaat kan het fout gaan ja.
goed werkende resolving is erg belangrijk.

zonder wachtwoord je share benaderen:
verander : map to guest = Bad User naar
map to guest = Bad Password

verder kan ik alleen zeggen dat er niets vreemds in je config zit.

Ik kan je alleen nog aanraden om samba van PPA te pakken, zodat je naar 4.1.11 of beter 4.1.12 gaat.
dit is de PPA.

En wat ik vergat, zet eens apparmor uit en kijk hoe het dan gaat.
Ik vermoed dat daar je probleem zit.
Of je resolving ( /etc/resolv.conf en /etc/hosts ) klopt niet.
draai je ook nog DHCP en bind toevallig?
