[WordPress] Plugin kan facebook niet bereiken

De website van mijn zwemclub heeft een verbinding met de facebookpagina. Berichten die op de website geplaatst worden, worden doorgesluisd naar Facebook.

Tenminste, tot een tijdje geleden. Wanneer ik nu berichten plaats op de website krijg ik even later boven in mijn dashboard de volgende melding te zien:

Add Link to Facebook - Contributie: Get me: cURL communication error 6 Couldn't resolve host ' @ 2014-09-03T18:47:30+00:00

De plugin die gebruikt wordt is Add Link To Facebook. Volgens de faq van de plugin moet ik bij deze error mijn hostingboer benaderen omdat daar iets fout zou zitten:

If this happens frequently and Facebook comments and likes are not imported at all because of these errors, it is time to contact your hosting provider.

cURL errors commonly reported:

• Error 6: Couldn’t resolve host: the DNS of the hosting server may not work correct

Op een ander forum van WP vond ik nog deze toevoeging van een gebruiker (niet over deze plugin btw):

The host's tech support says:
I have checked DNS servers and they are set correctly for your domain name

Tell them that they checked the wrong thing. This has nothing to do with your domain name at all, nor anything to do with the DNS servers.

It has to do with the DNS configuration on your web server. Tell them that your web server is trying to make an outgoing connection to the internet, and the DNS on your web server is NOT configured correctly, so it can't resolve the IP of downloads.wordpress.org.

Tell them to try to telnet or ssh to your web server, and then ping the outside world from there. They won't be able to do it, because name resolution is not setup properly.

The issue is NOT related to PHP. It's related to the fact that their server can't figure out the IP address given the host name of the site it's trying to connect to.

Is het aannemelijk dat dit ook mijn probleem is? En zo ja, welk adres moet dan gewhitelist worden? Is dat www.facebook.com? Ik wil mijn hostingboer (HOSTING2GO) wel benaderen maar dan wil ik wel een beetje weten waar ik het over heb

Gezien je cURL error zou het inderdaad aan de DNS instellingen van de server kunnen liggen. Misschien kun je in een eigen php script even het een en ander proberen, want dan zou niet alleen cURL er last van hebben. Kun je bijvoorbeeld wel nieuwe plugin installeren en WordPress updaten, vanuit WordPress zelf?

Hm, goeie. Als ik de pluginpagina open en een nieuwe wil toevoegen zie ik dit:

Warning: Er is een onverwachte fout opgetreden. Er kan iets mis zijn met WordPress.org of de server configuratie. Als dit probleem blijft aanhouden vraag dan in het forum om hulp. (WordPress kon geen beveiligde verbinding maken met WordPress.org. Als ik naar mijn dashboard kijk, lijkt het goed. Automatische updates staan aan en WP zegt zelf dat hij up-to-date is met versie 3.9.1. Dat is wel raar want 3.9.2 en 4.0 zijn beide al uitgebracht. Handmatig checken op nieuwe updates geeft geen nieuwe info: "De meest recente versie van WordPress is geïnstalleerd".

Zou ik een handmatige update moeten doen naar 4.0?

Edit:
Zojuist een handmatige update naar 4.0 gedaan. Geen verbeteringen; kan nog steeds geen plugins installeren, geen thema's en de facebook-error bestaat ook nog steeds.

Zeer waarschijnlijk gaat er iets mis qua hosting, gewoon even contact opnemen en het probleem uitleggen.

misschien dat een externe url aanroepen is uitgezet door de hosting partij, dit zou voor mij reden zijn om te switchen...
