[Ubuntu] Geen geluid over SPDIF

Ik probeer al een tijdje mijn SPDIF werkend te krijgen onder Ubuntu 14.04. Maar tot nu toe met weinig succes.
M'n geluidskaart (onboard) wordt wel herkend, maar wat ik ook doe, er komt geen geluid uit de speakers. Afhankelijk van de modus in alsamixer zie ik mijn versterker af en toe wel van kanaal verspringen (van COAX naar ANALOG, waarbij COAX de juiste zou moeten zijn), maar meer ook niet.

En wat heb je zelf nog geprobeerd? Je bent echt niet de enige met dit probleem en er zijn honderden resultaten als ik een beetje zoek op Google. Ik zal je een hint geven: IEC958.

Blijkbaar ben ik wel de enige, want ook op de support forums / IRC vind ik weinig help. En ik weet ook wel dat IEC958 de digital out is.
De topics die je tegenkomt zijn veelal 'I have exactly the same problem', maar geen oplossing.
Ik heb geprobeerd de driver van Realtek te installeren, maar toen had ik helemaal geen geluid meer.
(De geluidschip is een Realtek ALC850 AC'97)

Er staat ook een uitvoer 'Pulse' in je lijstje. Maak je gebruik van Alsa, of PulseAudio? Als je Pulse gebruikt, heeft alsamixer niet heel veel zin. Installeer dan pavucontrol (zo heet het package en executable), dan kan je in de laatste tab selecteren wat 't moet doen. Had je in principe ook kunnen vinden, maar goed, ben ik een goed humeur .
