Hey everyone,
Sorry for the english message, I do understand Dutch, but if I start writing it, nobody will understand me, so I'm gonna take my chances in English.
I've been using my Sony ericsson xperia pro for 2,5-3 years now and the slowness and sometimes when I REALLY need to hurry up, it just gets stuck for a bit and I've missed many busses, trams and trains because of the slowness of the phone. So i'm ready to buy a new phone basically in about a month maybe.
I'm looking for a phone that has a screen no bigger than 5", but preferably 4,5 - 4.7", I would go for a 5" if it's really worth it.
my budget is around 300 euro (can be more, depending if it's worth it
I would say I would be pretty unhappy to give away 350 for a phone, it should really be some amazing phone
I use the phone for checking/typing whatsapp, email, browsing from time to time, checking public transport schedules, calling via viber, and i use google maps quite a lot. I do NOT play games or anything that is intense on the battery
My SE xperia pro runs android 2.3 still, I can pretty much get a one day out of it, but not always. Even though i turn off 3G every time when I'm not using it, i always turn off the screen manually instead of waiting for it to turn off, I have my screen on low brightness, and still this phone at the end of the day, with barely any usage leaves 32% battery and that is enough for maybe 10 minutes tops with screen on
So far I haven't really found the perfect phone, there is always something wrong. I just want a phone with a 720p screen (notice how I don't care if it's fullHD, I won't see much difference anyways and i'm not a movie watcher), i want a descent camera, starting from 6 mp and above (I take a lot of pictures of text, tables, schedules etc), I want it to run Android OS, I would prefer a screen not smaller than 4,3 and not bigger than 5, IDEAL would be 4,5 OR 4.7. I just sometimes don't have the possibility to use both hands at all times, like if i'm biking and need to check Google maps. Also, what's important is that the phone is reasonably future proof, like I need the RAM to be 1,5 - 2 GB, and not less, because I noticed just how much better a processor, be it dual or quad core, performs when the phone has enough ram.
I myself looked at moto x, xperia z1 compact, moto g, blackberry z10/z30 (yeah, BB isn't Android, but it has some attractive features), and galaxy s4 active (not the regular galaxy s4 due to its cheap look and feel). All these phones i mentioned lack something as usual. Moto x is outdated, has an old dual core (which means perhaps it's not as efficient when it comes to battery life?) and it's not worth the price they ask. xperia z1 compact has all those little claps around it to protect it from water and that scratchy back side, plus I read about some camera problems, like the silver lining around the lens reflect light or something and it has an effect on pictures. moto g, has a nice price, but then as you know, has 1 gb ram, bad camera plus a dual core moto x can outrun it. blackberry is at development stages still, and i'm not looking at it seriously just yet, since i read something about google maps having a slow start. galaxy s4 active, nice built, enough power under the hood and enough ram, screen is a bit big, but i can live with that, but I hear it makes you a slave to charging it all the time. And all the Samsung overkill apps that I know I won't be using is also a turn off
So now i'm just stuck, unable to find a proper phone for my preferences and usage history. I'm not even asking for 4G or full HD screen, I just want a phone with descent battery life, hd ready screen, not too big, good ram
On phonearena it says z3 compact is coming up, plus s5 mini is already around the corner. I would really appreciate any advice, particularly in alternative phone brands that are proven to be good, well built and have as clean as possible android experience. Also I would much appreciate if I am horribly misinformed about the phones i mentioned. Maybe someone can enlighten me on the real information about the phones and tell me about the possibilities of custom rom or rooting (none of which i know how to do, but i know people who know how to do it well)
thank you all
