Vista boot niet meer na wijzigen ext4 partitie

Niet gedacht dat ik ooit deze vraag ging stellen op tweakers Het is zeker niet de eerste keer dat mijn pc niet meer wil booten, al dan niet na wat gepruts En zowat altijd los ik het zelf op maar deze keer geraak ik er echt niet aan uit. Ik hoop dat iemand mij verder kan helpen!

Eerst en vooral zeggen dat er 3 partities aanwezig waren op mijn SSD:
- NTFS partitie Windows Vista
- ext4 partitie met Ubuntu (12.04 dacht ik)
- swap partitie

Wat is er gebeurd en wat heb ik gedaan?
Een paar weken geleden wou ik Ubuntu upgraden naar de laatste versie. Dit wou ik doen via do-release-upgrade omdat ik geen zin had om een bootable dvd of stick te maken. Maar omdat ik mijn ext4 partitie nogal krap gekozen had (wegens de 128GB SSD), had ik net iets te weinig plaats en dus wou ik de ext4 partitie iets groter maken.

Eerst heb ik de NTFS partitie iets verkleind via schijfbeheer maar daarna bleek het onmogelijk om de ext4 partitie te vergroten. Ook niet met andere partitietools. Dit vond ik nogal vreemd maar ik had geen zin om het verder uit te zoeken. De upgrade van ubuntu was nu ook niet zo dringend.

Deze week wou ik echter XBMCbuntu uitproberen en deze keer wel via een bootable usb-stick 'Live' werkte perfect maar ik wou het toch eens installeren op mijn PC. Ideaal dus om nogmaals te proberen de partitie te vergroten. Aangezien mijn NTFS partitie al verkleind was, moest ik de ext4 partitie enkel maar vergroten. Deze werd eerst 'opgeschoven' en daarna vergroot. Dit ging zonder problemen, XBMCbuntu werd geïnstalleerd en werkte perfect. Maar sindsdien kan ik op geen enkele manier Windows Vista nog booten.

Alle bestanden zijn nog aanwezig en toegankelijk via zowel XBMCbuntu als via de Vista Recovery DVD. Ik heb de tools chkdsk, bootrec, bootsect en testdisk al geprobeerd en ook de herstelling via de Vista Recovery DVD levert niks op. Ik krijg enkel een zwart scherm te zien met een blinkende cursor. Ook F8 werkt niet want zo ver geraakt het systeem niet eens.

Je kan dus wel gewoon XBMCubuntu starten? Dan lijkt er wat mis te zijn met de grub config. Installeer, als die er nog niet is, os-prober en voer dan een 'update-grub' uit als root. Ga iig niet met de Windows boot recovery aan de slag, want dan zorg je er weer voor dat Linux niet meer start (Grub wordt dan vervangen voor de Windows bootloader en dat wil je niet).

Grub is inderdaad reeds vervangen. Logischerwijs startte XBMCbuntu dan niet meer op De ext4 en swap partities heb ik intussen ook verwijderd in de hoop iets te kunnen oplossen. Maar alle mogelijk pogingen leveren gewoon het zwarte scherm met cursor op.

Ik vind het gewoon vreemd dat niks werkt terwijl de partitie en bestanden gewoon aanwezig zijn. Misschien is het inderdaad geen slecht idee om terug het terug via Grub te proberen, dan heb ik misschien wat meer mogelijkheden. In theorie zou ik het er toch ook moeten op krijgen zonder Linux te installeren?

Intussen toch Ubuntu terug geïnstalleerd.

Wat ik ben vergeten er bij te zeggen; Vista verschijnt wel in het opstartmenu! Dus de partitie is wel gekend door grub. Alleen lukt het mij onmogelijk om te laten booten... Alsof er wel verwezen wordt naar die partitie maar daar ook nog een loader nodig is, kan dit?

Windows heeft zijn eigen bootloader.

Of je MBR is niet helemaal tof meer. Die houdt namelijk ook zaken bij als wat waar staat om een OS te booten. Je kan proberen vanuit WinPE een fixmbr commando te geven. Maar ik heb geen idee wat dat doet voor je Linux installatie.

Ik vermoed dat die fixmbr niet veel verschillend is dan de het bootrec /fixmbr commando? Want dat laatste heb ik al geprobeerd, ook met /fixboot en /scanos. Eigenaardig genoeg kan /scanos niks vinden? Ook heb ik de bcd al gewist en opnieuw gerebuild met /rebuildbcd optie maar dit levert ook niks op. /rebuildbcd kan wel Vista vinden.

Ik ben geen boot record specialist. Maar uit mijn elektronica-ervaring weet ik wel dat er op één of ander moment een commando moet komen om te springen naar een bepaald adres. Kan het niet zijn dat er 'ergens' een verkeerd adres staat en er dus gesprongen worden naar een verkeerde sector op de schijf? Waardoor het systeem logischerwijs dan ook niks doet. Er gebeurt gewoon niks na het selecteren van windows in het bootmenu, geen schijfactiviteit, noppes... Mijn vermoeden is dan ook dat er 'ergens' een verkeerd adres moet staan. Kan het zijn dat bij het partitioneren om één of andere reden de partitie iets 'verschoven' is? Al zou ik denken dat de boot record dit afhandelt en zou dus vermoeden dat fixmbr of dergelijke dit zouden oplossen? Zelfs met testdisk krijg ik het niet aan de praat, dit heb ik nog niet voorgehad...

Is er iemand die uit het bovenstaande nog iets kan halen? Clean install zie ik momenteel niet echt zitten aangezien ik geen recovery partitie meer heb, die heb ik niet mee gekopieerd naar de ssd. En de sticker met de code op de laptop is jammer genoeg niet meer leesbaar.
