IMEI Blocking [Stolen Phones]

Hey, Does anyone know how to get a stolen iPhone blocked?
It seems that in the Netherlands they dont do this? But they want to "sms bombard" the stolen phones?

But why cant a service provider block an IMEI for their own customer on their network?

My phone (with T-Mobile) was stolen, and T-Mobile told me that they cannot block the IMEI on thier network, which i find stupid.
