Hoi,
Hi,
For a customer we bought 2x QNAP TS-269 Pro's.
We use 1 of them to store archived data, so they aren't storing old data on the production servers.
We're using the other one for backup.
Offcourse they're both running RAID 1.
Now, what I've done is set up NAS to NAS replication.
Example:
NAS - 1 - ARCHIVE with Replication jobs to NAS - 2 - BACKUP (BACKUPQNAP\backup)
- Monday Full --> BACKUPQNAP\backup
- Tuesday Full --> BACKUPQNAP\backup
- Wednesday Full --> BACKUPQNAP\backup
- Thursday Full --> BACKUPQNAP\backup
- Friday Full --> BACKUPQNAP\backup
With this setup they can only go back 1 day.
Since tuesday overwrites monday, wednesday overwrites tuesday...
Is there a way to create a setup to keep data from each backup for like 1 week, without doing this manually.
By doing this manually I mean:
- Monday Full 1 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_monday1
- Tuesday Full 1 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_tuesday1
- Wednesday Full 1 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_wednesday1
- Thursday Full 1 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_thursday1
- Friday Full 1 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_friday1
- Monday Full 2 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_monday2
- Tuesday Full 2 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_tuesday2
- Wednesday Full 2 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_wednesday2
- Thursday Full 2 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_thursday2
- Friday Full 2 --> BACKUPQNAP\backup_fruday2
If there is no other way than the above, you can imagine the backup disks would run out of space quite fast.
We could make tuesday and friday's jobs differential, but the above setup is not ideal.
I hope I made myself clear in what I'm trying to achieve.
Basically I need the same functionally as you'd get with Symantec Backup Exec - Tapes - Setting: Keep data for X days/weeks.
When X time passes the data can be overwritten.
Thanks in advance.
