Crashplan Performance

Crashplan is een erg populair product om software te back-uppen. Ik heb het inmiddels op mijn Synology NAS geïnstalleerd.

Helaas is de snelheid voor mij persoonlijk altijd extreem teleurstellend geweest. De gemiddelde snelheid die ik te zien krijg is 1mbps.



Op deze manier heeft het gewoon geen zin om maandelijks $5,99 te betalen. Ik heb inmiddels al contact opgenomen met de support-afdeling van Crashplan, maar ik vroeg me af of andere mensen wel betere snelheden halen. Hoe is dat bij jullie?

Crashplan heeft hier de volledige 8mbit upload toegetrokken bij mijn eerste upload (3weken geleden +- 250GB aan data)

Kan je wel meer dan 1Mbit/s uploaden naar de VS? Probeer als test eens een (andere) site.

Natuurlijk alle andere up- en downloads uitzetten tijdens testen (incl. Netflix, Spotify, Youtube, VoIP, etc etc. En natuurlijk de Crashplan-backup ).

Ik heb 30mbit glasvezel en Crashplan upload nu met 900kbps, dat dus moet hoger kunnen.




Ik heb contact met de ondersteuning van Crashplan, maar heb dat al eerder gehad. Tot nu toe heeft het weinig opgeleverd, maar ik zal de log-bestanden en de hostname van de cliënt doorsturen.

It is unlikely that backups to CrashPlan Central will be able to match your upload limit. This is not a bug - it's the nature of a shared service that is designed to be affordable. Like other services that share resources with a pool of users (i.e. cable internet or cellular data), CrashPlan's speed varies depending on the number of simultaneous users and what they are uploading at the time. We work to ensure that everyone gets sufficient bandwidth for uploads and is able to get a reasonable speed for our very reasonable price. Our infrastructure is designed in such as way that we can offer all of our customers - spanning the entire globe - average speeds around 1-3 Mbps.

All this being said, I'll be happy to look a little harder to see if there are any roadblocks in your way. Can you please confirm which computer on your account you're seeing the slow speed on? Then please locate and zip your CrashPlan log files on that machine, and attach them to the ticket when replying (or if the zipped file is >20 MB, send a download link using a service like dropbox or ge.tt) so we can take a closer look at the behavior you're seeing.

Ook bij mij gaat het niet bijzonder rap om mijn Synology. Ik heb 600 GB gebackupt. De eerste belangrijke 100 GB duurde 1 of 2 weken geloof ik. Ik heb een 50/50 glasvezel lijn. De upload naar Crashplan is altijd maar een fractie hiervan.

Ik zou je adviseren om alleen zaken te backuppen die voor jou persoonlijk van belang zijn. Van Life of Pi zijn ook elders op het web wel "backups" te vinden. Daar is crashplan niet voor bedoeld.

Check deze website: networkrockstar.ca. De fix die hier beschreven staat heeft er voor gezorgd dat mijn upload verdriedubbeld werd. Wellicht dat dit voor jullie ook werk, waarschijnlijk wel

Het probleem kan idd zoals Tiestor aangeeft in de deduplication zitten. Zeker als je van een Nas runt kan de cpu daar de bottleneck zijn.

Mijn snelheid ging enorm omhoog toen ik deduplication en compressie uitzette.

Dat doe je als volgt: Settings -> Backup -> Advanced Settings: configure.
Kies bij data deduplication Minimal en bij compression kies je Off.

Deze settings staan zo omdat het grootste deel van de wereld veel slechter internet heeft dan wij. Dan loont het om de hoeveelheid data zo klein mogelijk te maken. Dit belast de CPU van de NAS enorm waardoor de snelheid inzakt.

Resultaten van de maatregel:

Veel snellere crashplan backups, minder CPU belasting NAS, minder stroomverbruik en minder lawaai!
