I apologise for the English here, but me writing in Dutch here is a long forgotten skill, so please bear with me.

I have been hosting and keeping the elitehackers.info stats and proxy server active for many years, although I am the only active member still flushing at present purely for sentimental reasons since we decided to terminate EH some time ago.

However, looking at the distributed.net website lately, I have realised there hasn’t been a news or blog update for over 11 months, the beta clients are still beta one year later and the release clients haven’t been updated for 16 months.

Add to the mix people being able to run high speed crunching clients on GPUs for RC5-72 which requires a zillion CPUs these days just compete with a GPU. There is no more motivation or the lure of running dnetc anymore. It has lost its attraction and the old magic of competing against the other teams as well.

I will keep my proxy server running for long as I can, but the days updating or adding more clients for this is now long gone.

I wish you all the best!

That's sad, but understandable news.

My point being, I wouldn't mind keeping it alive, but when was the last time you have seen an update on distributed.net's site?

I think some projects are running to long to stay focused. I believe they don't have the motivated people anymore as when it all started. No updates for over a year regarding the project or clients/proxy/stats. Or even a blog. They need to do something new.

Although the clients, proxy en stats are the best around in the DC landscape imho.

I have to agree with Witlof.

There is still some activity in the Bug database of Distributed.net, but it is very limited.
They need to do something to revive distribunted.net projects. They were (one of) the first and it would be a pitty if they wouldn't survive, just because the projects are running too long.

A couple of days ago I sent a message to DNET to ask about the silence on the site and inactivity around clients. Below the response of Jeff Lawson (bovine).

Hi,

We continue to monitor and maintain the distributed.net servers and network infrastructure, and there are no plans to discontinue the projects. Unfortunately, our client development cycle has always been slower than we would prefer because we have only a small number of people helping with development and builds. We hope to make another batch of clients in the next month or so, so look forward for that in the near future...

Thanks for your support!
