hello

i'm a newbie in the hardware area, and i build a server computer with following components

motherboard : supermicro H8DG6-F
processor : amd opteron 6272
memmory : 64GB
processor cooler : Noctua90
case : norco-4224
psu : antec 1200W

i can start up the computer with a boot disk connected to the onboard sata/0 port
the mobo has an onboard LSI SAS controller which i have flashed to IT mode

with the package of the motherboard there was a blue cable with splits from one sas end into 4 sata ends.
when i put the blue cable into on of the sas ports of the on-board sas controller and give the disk power ,then when i boot i can see the disk in the boot screen
but i want the disk not as a standalone disk ,but to be placed in the norco case 4224 backplane.

I've bought a purper cable (which i think is an internal sas cable)
which i connect to the on-board sas controller port and the other end to the norco 4224 backplane sas input end
but when i boot ,
i see on the screen
searching for devices at HBA 0 (it stays here forever on boot)

Either i have put the wrong cable ?, or i'm missing something
or some setting in my bios is wrong ?

anybody have a clue?

"Purple" cable doesn't give too much information, but I assume it a 8087 > 8087 cable.
Did you connect the powercable to the backplane in which you installed the disk? (only need to connect one of the power connectors per single backplane)
