Setting Device Expectations

Let’s start with the simplest form of this: CyanogenMod does not pre-announce support or lack of support for devices. Ever. Even for the Nexus 4, we did not announce support until a nightly build was available. Further, any announcement regarding the ‘dropping’ of device support will be communicated via this Google+ page, Twitter, Facebook, our blog, or a combination of those; it will not be something buried in a forum post.

This morning, a comment from a CM collaborator on XDA was taken to be as an ‘absolute’ in regards to support of the S4. He offered the opinion of four TeamHacksung maintainers, their frustrations and lack of interest in supporting the S4. What’s seemingly lost on those reading this is that his comments as an individual do not speak for CyanogenMod as an organization.

As for the team’s stance on the S4, there isn’t one at this time, and most definitely won’t be one before the device is sold at retail.

Het is dus niet zeker dat de S4 niet ondersteund gaat worden en dat het een mening van 1 persoon is.

Zeker niet; het is de mening van Team Hackung, die alle voorgaande Samsung-ports maakte. De andere gasten bij CyanogenMod zijn slim - en kunnen wellicht iets doen voor de Qualcomm-versie van de S4, maar ook die heeft gesloten drivers voor onder meer wifi, camera, radio en meer.

Nergens in ons artikel staat dat CM als organisatie de S4 niet zal ondersteunen, maar Team Hacksung - die zoals gezegd alle Galaxy S- en Note-ports tot nu op zich nam - heeft een sterk statement de wereld in gestuurd. Ik volg deze zaak al meer dan een half jaar en ik acht de kans miniem dat er ooit een goed werkende port van CM voor de S4 komt.

Met het duidelijke statement van XplodWild en alle openbare (en niet openbare) info die ik heb over deze zaak, vond ik het voldoende om dit als nieuws te brengen - ook al zag ik aankomen dat vanuit 'CM HQ' een dergelijk statement wel moest komen
