Windows herkent nw ext. Hdd (USB) niet, identieke oude wél

Bezit n aantal externe harde schijven van verschillende merken (WD en Samsung) die allen (1TB en 2TB) goed werken.
Wegens ruimtegebrek heb ik twee nieuwe ext hdd's gekocht.
In eerste instantie twee LaCie's (€99 p/st !) van 2TB. Bij aansluiting via USB ging Windows op zoek naar t stuurprogramma en kwam tot mn verbazing met de mededeling dat deze niet gevonden kon worden. Ook op Mijn Computer was de hdd niet zichtbaar. Dit in tegenstelling tot mn oudere externe hdd's die wel normaal functioneren.
Vanalles geprobeerd zoals bij apparaatbeheer, waar de schijf met n geel uitroepteken staat stuurprogramma vernieuwen (zonder resultaat) de installatie ongedaan maken en het apparaat weer aansluiten met hetzelfde resultaat.

In de veronderstelling dat het wellicht iets met LaCie (inmiddels ook slechte reviews over gelezen) te maken zou hebben deze in de winkel omgeruild voor vertrouwde, nog enigzins betaalbare Samsung G3 2TB externen.
Echter met precies hetzelfde resultaat: ook van deze nieuwe Samsung meldt Windows geen stuurprogramma te kunnen vinden en op zoek te zullen gaan naar n oplossing vh probleem. En ook dezen zijn niet zichtbaar bij Mijn Computer.
Onder eigenschappen in Apparaatbeheer geeft Windows de mededeling dat Samsung G3 niet correct is geconfigureerd (Foutcode 1).

Heb ook Microsofts Fix-It gedraaid. Die kwam met niet meer als de suggestie dat er drivers geïnstalleerd moeten worden. De automatische zoekaktie die daarop volgde leverde geen resultaat op.

Inmiddels nog twee tips toegepast:
1. laptop uitgeschakeld en 2 minuten zonder stroom laten..
2. In BIOS Default Settings(F9) ingeschakeld
Zonder resultaat...

Door onderling (oud naar nieuw) USB-bekabeling en voeding te wisselen lijkt t uitgesloten dat t probleem bij de hdd's zit temeer omdat ook n 3e, geleend apparaat dat niet eerder op mn laptop aangesloten was geweest niet herkend werd.

Waar kan dit mee te maken hebben (ergens n verkeerde instelling misschien) en wat kan ik er aan doen?
Iemand n suggestie?

Sluit de HDD eens aan terwijl je laptop uit staat en zet dan eens pas je laptop aan, werkt het dan wel?

Mag windows van jou drivers zoeken via windows update?

Zoek via start eens naar: "instellingen voor apparaatinstallatie wijzigen"

Aansluiten voor opstart heeft t zelfde resultaat: Windows gaat zoeken maar vindt 0.
@jeroen3: "instellingen voor apparaatinstallatie wijzigen" werkt alleen in Windows7, draai hier op Vista Home Premium: onder Windows Update zijn helaas geen instellingen voor apparaatinstallatie te beheren.

Inmiddels ook n geleende ext hdd die al langer in gebruik was geweest maar nog niet eerder op mn laptop was aangesloten geprobeerd maar ook die werd niet herkend.
t Lijkt erop dat alle nieuwe usb-hardware niet herkend wordt..

Na deïnstallatie van alle USB controllers bleek Vista niet instaat ze te herïnstalleren, meldingen vlogen me om de oren. In arrenmoede systeemherstel gebruikt en daarmee alles teruggekregen maarrrr... t probleem bestaat nog steeds: nieuw spul wordt niet herkend en on-top-of-that Vista kan kennelijk geen stuurprogramma's meer installeren.

Heb al uren zitten googelen maar kan geen vergelijkbare problemen+oplossingen vinden

Probleem opgelost. Geef hier twee opties waarvan de 2e voor mij werkte.

#1 :
During the initial installation of a USB device (most often external drives, although not always), Windows Vista does not locate or install drivers for the device.

Windows Vista might report that there is “no driver found for you device” and/or will not display the pre-installed Vista OEM drivers. Even by manually selecting the driver, you will still get the “no driver found…” error. This is most likely caused by a corrupted INFCACHE.1 file. This file stores the location of drivers and their INF files. This file is hidden, has restricted access, and can be found in “c:\windows\inf”.

Delete the INFCACHE.1 file and it will force Windows to rebuild the INFCACHE.1 file the next time Windows searches for drivers. To delete this file, you have to set the security permissions of it to allow Full Control for the User Group Administrators or full control for your user account. Please follow the directions below:

1 Open a Windows Explorer window by right clicking on Start and then clicking on Explore.
2 In the address bar, type C:\windows\inf and press Enter.
3 Find and then right click on the file named INFCACHE.1.
4 Select Properties.
5 Click on the Security tab.
6 Click on Edit to edit the permissions of the file.
7 Click on Add to add User Groups.
8 Type Administrators in the User Groups field and click on OK.
9 Set Administrators to Full Control and click on OK.
10 Move or delete the file INFCACHE.1.
11Reinstall a device to force Windows to rebuild the INFCACHE.1 file (DO NOT reinstall the same external hard drive that you were having issues detecting before. Please connect another USB device other than the one that Vista had an issue detecting).

This detection issue can happen several times in a row, but repeat the steps 1-11 and try again until this works.

UPDATE: To clarify a couple emails I received, this *only* applies to Vista (all editions, x86 and x64) but not to XP, or any other version of Windows.

#2 :
This issue involves every USB related device such as: mice, USB dongles, keyboards, external or portable hard disks etc. The USB device is simply not recognized or not detected and the computer returns this message: “Unknown Device”.
1. Go to Control Panel –System and Maintenance — System — Device Manager.
2. In the Device Manager, expand the tree of Human Interface Devices.
3. Update the driver for all Unknown Device.
4. Of course Windows Vista won’t find any new device. When prompted select Browse my computer for driver software.
5. Enter or browse to C:\Windows\winsxs as the driver location and press the Next button.
6. If the system warns you about unsigned driver, just go on.
7. At this point windows Vista should install the right driver for your device.
8. Done!”
