verder ontwikkelen .Net Framework of overstappen op Android

Hi all,


We are a small to medium sized enterprise (from Belgium) that is active in the field of private expertise after damage (fire, flood, storm,...)

What we actually do, in two words, is compose a big inventory of all the damaged goods, building materials and structure and discuss this with the insurance company (homes, structure-technical, bridges, burnt down companies,...)

One and a half year ago we hired a company to write us a software package to digitalize this process. We would use a tablet for the input. The tablet has not to do big calculations, it just has to be able to manage a big inventory and convert it to excel (could even be done at the office on a separate desktop pc)

We absolutely didn't push the development of the software, so this results in a completion rate of approx. 60%-70%.

We never gave any attention to the code where it was in programmed, which is currently .Net Framework from Microsoft.

We are now in the first testing phase of the software and realized that windows 7 tablets are not common, probably to slow, take too much battery, etc...

As much of the tablets coming out are in Android code, we even have problems finding a good tablet with Windows 7 to run our software. So we suspect that Android is a much better platform for us to use, develop and find a descent tablet. The software really doesn’t need much processing power.

The company we hired cannot program in Android and tells us it is, till now, not possible to convert to Android. They don't like our questions about it, because this could mean they would lose their assignment...

Because we paid the company already a few €10000 in the development, it's not that obvious to start all over again.


Now are my questions:

1) Should we do start all over again and lose the money already spent

2) convert the software and continue programming in Android code (and is this possible?)

3) complete the software and than convert (possible?)

4) develop in .net framework and convert every time we make an update

5) stay with .net framework


Any expertise or advice in this matter would be much appreciated...

Moet het perse Windows 7 zijn? Er zijn namelijk genoeg Chinese tablets die op Windows CE draaien.

Het is geprogrammeerd in .Net framework. Dus zolang dat erop staat is het voldoende vermoed ik.

Mss enig merk of type van goede tablets? Want ze gaan zeker intensief gebruikt worden...

Even website doorzocht. Is misschien een oplossing. Als ik het goed heb, kun je elke tablet die Citrix kan draaien, .Net Framework laten emuleren en zo de software draaien of...?

Je benaderd gewoon een applicatie die extern draait. Dus als jou applicatie gewoon in een Windows omgeving draait kan je hem via je tablet benaderen. De applicatie draait niet op je tablet, je ziet enkel het beeld en jou (tekst)invoer wordt terug gestuurd naar de server. Gewoon een remote desktop idee maar dan op applicatieniveau.

Mja daar zit het probleem. We hebben de tablet nodig in ter plaatse op brandschades, in alle uithoeken van het land. Een connectie naar de server hebben we zeker niet altijd. We kunnen dus niet afhankelijk zijn van een verbinding of iets wat niet 120% werkt...

Novell is bezig met een port van Mono (linux .net framework) naar android genaamd monodroid
