Okay I apologise as I cannot speak Dutch yet. (I'm taking courses elke avond!) I've lived here 4 months now but I love tweakers for the pricing and I try and read as much as I can every day

Dutch technical knowledge seems superior to anyone else's I know....

I need help as I've got a budget for 350€ and I need to build a good rig for a friend. I will post this on anandtech as well but I reckon there are some great people here that can help.

I'm sorry if I've posted in the wrong thread.

The PC is for general use, multi office programs, watching videos. A lot of Google chrome tabs etc A little games but old ones like AoE II.

I have a spare ATI 1950XTX and IDE DVD drive. I do not have Windows7 and do not want it at the moment. So 2GB I think is enough for him.

This actually looks like an affordable setup, almost can't make it cheaper myself.... But saying he doesn't need the 1950xt anymore, I'm not so sure because that depends: The 1950XT has got more gaming-power than the on-board HD4200 on that Asrock motherboard, or to be exact: playing games with that onboard gpu is almost impossible (although AoE2 should run). BUT... the 1950XT doesn't support gpu-decoding for high definition video and the coming browser innovations that also depend on gpu. This could be something 2 think about

With that setup he still has about €25,- left from the €350,- budget... The thing I would do is trade the quadcore cpu for a nice dualcore like the pricewatch: AMD Athlon II X2 250, that's saves him about €25,- more. Put that €50,- (with maybe an extra 10 or 20 euros) into an affordable (second hand) videocard and get the best of both worlds The difference between a dual- or quadcore shouldn't be that much for the intended use, plus the better videocard should make up the difference.

AoE2 should run on almost every graphics card, could be run entirely on a modern processer even.
I agree with the above IF games are important, if they are not I would prefere a quad core processor because that affects everyday use, a better GPU only helps in games. So it really depends on what type of user your friend is, will he play modern games if he could?
