Hello there,
A while ago I bought the Asus A7Pro as part of a general upgrade.
I have since then been though 2 of those boards, and now have an A7V, but the problem persists.
The problem is this: Once I install the Via inf drivers, the drivers that lets Windows properly detect the Via chipset, almost all programs I try to set up, crash. Its not so much the programs, but the INSTALLER that chrashes.
This happenes most often when installing something from a CD, like a game. Probably 90% of alle the setups I have tried crash immedietly, with either an 'invalid page fault' in <unkown> or Kernel32.
Now remember, this problem ONLY orrurs AFTER the INF drivers have been installed.
I first noticed this of course installing the 4-in-1 package from Via. I managed to narrow it down to the INF Drivers.
The other parts of the driver set, such as Viagart, work fine and are stable (as far as I can tell by game performance)
I have tried various version of the 4-in-1 set, up to and including 4.28a.
I have a suspicion that it may have to do with the CDROM player, so I have tried various things with that (like turning DMA on and off, switching controllers, switching to slave and back)
However, I have also tried copying and entire CD-ROM installation to HD and tried the Setup from there, with no result.
My system specs are as follows:
Asus A7V (rev. 5000a)
AMD T-bird 900
2 x DIMM 128mb 133Mhz @ 133Mhz
1 Maxtor 10GB (Primary slave)
1 Maxtor 23GB (Primary Master)
Toshiba DVD-ROM (secondary Master)
Creative Geforce 2 GTS
Creative SB Live player 1024
Sitecom ISDN
Sitecom Fast Ethernet
