hi,
[2010-05-26 00:42:55] Customer: hi
[2010-05-26 00:43:05] Customer: I have a question on wifi channels
[2010-05-26 00:43:18] Customer: i have 2 wrt610n
[2010-05-26 00:43:39] Customer: one is dhcp server, connects to the adsl modem
[2010-05-26 00:43:49] Customer: the other is just switch and wifi access point
[2010-05-26 00:44:04] Customer: one is first floor in back of house
[2010-05-26 00:44:12] Customer: other is top floor in front of house
[2010-05-26 00:44:21] Customer: together I finally have coverage.
[2010-05-26 00:45:03] Customer: configured separate 5g and 2.4 channels so I now have a house wifi (2.4gh) and house wifi2 (5gh). The 2.4 is for the small usages equipment like iphone and the 5ghz is for the laptops/ipad etc.
[2010-05-26 00:45:11] Customer: question is on the channels
[2010-05-26 00:45:52] Customer: what is best: configure the 2.4 channels to be on the same channel (so both ssid, channel are the same) but have 2 access points
[2010-05-26 00:46:17] Customer: or have each access point / router same ssid/securty but on a different channel. Or third option - have each a different ssid and channel (e.g. home1/channel 2.4-10, home2/channel 2.4-11, home3 5ghz-36, home4 5ghz-40)
[2010-05-26 00:46:51] Customer: same of course for the 5gh channels - should both be on the same channel or should they have same ssid and security but different channel.
[2010-05-26 00:47:38] Customer: I know have both 2.4 and 5 on separate channels (11 and and 12 for the 2.4 and 36 and 48 for the 5gh)
[2010-05-26 00:47:50] Aden (30061E): It doesnt matter. However,it would be better that if they have separate ssid names and security just to avoid confusion and the channels can be the same.
[2010-05-26 00:48:17] Aden (30061E): If you are facing problems with reception with the same channels then you can change them.
[2010-05-26 00:49:32] Customer: i'm thinking that e.g. iphone will stay on the same access point if I have different channels when walking around - lousy reception on the other floor while being next to the other access point
[2010-05-26 00:49:48] Customer: but all on the same channel can give interference?
[2010-05-26 00:50:21] Aden (30061E): Yes,they can sometimes.
[2010-05-26 00:51:59] Customer: same ssid is better I think so all phones etc connect on the same network?
[2010-05-26 00:52:13] Aden (30061E): Okay.
[2010-05-26 00:52:38] Customer: sooo? same channel and same ssid and security or all different?
[2010-05-26 00:53:15] Aden (30061E): Try with same and if you face any problem then change it.
[2010-05-26 01:00:31] Aden (30061E): Is there anything else that I may assist you with ?
[2010-05-26 01:01:30] Customer: no thanks
