First - my apologies for writing English on Dutch forum. Please feel free to reply in Dutch if that is easier.

I have recently bought a Linksys WRT610N router. I want to use it with my existing Speedtouch 716v5WL (which I have been using without a problem for a logn time).

I am not having much success. I thought that I would be able to use the 716 as a modem only in bridge mode, but I am having no success. I don't know whether I am setting the 716 wrong, or if I don't know what settings to use in the Linksys (do I use PPTP, Static etc)

Both routers have the latest firmware. I am connected to xs4all only. I have a fixed IP address.

In the speedtouch I get 4 options in the setup wiuzerd.
Profiel 1 (PPPoA 8/48)
Profiel 2 (RFC1483 / Bridged Ethernet 0/34)
Profiel 3 (RFC1483 / Bridged Ethernet 0/35)
Profiel 4 (PPPoA 0/35)

I have tried profiles 2 & 3, but I am not sure if either they are correct to use, and when I set up the linksus router I have no idea which of the connection settings to use.

I would very much appreciate help!

The profiles in the Speedtouch are used to connect to your ADSL line. This has nothing to do with routing or bridging of your network connection to your WRT610N. You should try and find out what setting you need to make your Speedtouch a modem in bridged mode.

What is your desired setup / config that your aiming for ?
Maybe a little image of the overview, that helps better to understand.

Your having problems, because your connecting a router to an router.

Use the configuration tool from http://www.speedtouch.nl/software.html#716

With this tool, you can set your 716 to bridge mode (BBNed, Tiscali) or spoofing mode (PPPoA connections such as used by the KPN consumer network).
Config wizard in the Speedtouch itself doesn't support all Dutch networks by default, and no option for spoofing mode.

In both cases, the modem acts as a 'bridge' (although its not a full bridge when using spoofing mode, but it works similar). In both cases, your WAN ip is assigned to the Linksys.

Note: Using bridge would disable voip capabilities of your modem, and wifi is also useless (just turn it off in the config)

Using XS4all you'll probably need Spoofing mode (KPN network, VCI/VPI 8/48), but that depends on your subscription (the offer also dsl connections on other networks, or at least did in the past)

Thanks for the help so far folks.

Just to clarify, I want to use the old speedtouch as a dsl modem only - disabling its router functions, and use the newer Linksys as the router for my home network - both wireless and wired clients (including a windows home server). I also want to be able to set up remote access so that I can maintain my home server from outside.

DJSmiley has helped a lot and I am making some progress. One question: Do I need to switch off the DHCP server on the Speedtouch once I have set it up in bridge mode? (the wizard does not switch it off by default).

Yes you have to switch off the DHCP on the speedtouch. since you bridge the modem you get the ip address "relayed" through the ST to your wrt box.
