Socks (or "SOCKS") is a protocol that a proxy server server can use to accept requests from client users in a company's network so that it can forward them across the Internet. Socks uses sockets to represent and keep track of individual connections. The client side of Socks is built into certain Web browsers and the server side can be added to a proxy server.
A socks server handles requests from clients inside a company's firewall and either allows or rejects connection requests, based on the requested Internet destination or user identification. Once a connection and a subsequent "bind" request have been set up, the flow of information exchange follows the usual protocol (for example, the Web's Hypertext Transfer Protocol protocol).

Ben iets duidelijker aub.. Bedoel je Socks of Socket 5 of ?
Effe voor de duidelijkheid. SOCKS en Socket 5 zijn NIET hetzelfde.
Nou ja Socket 5 is iig voor Pentium Pro... ( We praten hier over hardware. Net zoiets als Socket 7 of Socket A.)

Dus als ik het goed begrijp kan ik bv een UT server bouwen met dit socks of socket 5 en dan kunnen internet mensen toch in dit spel komen (ik zit achter een server dus geen direct ip adress op het net)

sok5? Volgens mij is dat je linkersok die altijd op woensdag draagt (sok1 en sok2 op maandag,sok3 en sok4 op dinsdag, enz):?
