XP installeren vanaf USB-stick op laptop zonder cd-romdrive

Ok daar gaat ie dan:

Ik wil graag XP installeren vanaf een usb stick op mn laptop omdat daar geen cd-drive inzit.
Nou denk je van dit is makkelijk. Nou niet dus en dat begint aardig te frustreren.
Volgens de HP storage tool kan ik een bootable USB stick maken (FAT32).
Als ik dat heb gedaan dan boot ik em op de laptop ik en kom ik netjes op C:\.
Dat werkt dacht ik dus.
Toen heb ik de I386 map gekopieerd naar de usbstick. Weer booten op de laptop en jah hoor netjes op de c:\ een mapje I386.
Ik open dan winnt.exe. Setup wordt gestart en ik krijg de vreemde melding dat ik moet aangeven waar de installatie bestanden zich vinden. Dit staat al goed ingevuld (c:\I386) en ik druk dan op OK.
Dan komt ie met de melding dat smartdrive niet geladen kan worden en kan ik wel verder maar er gebeurt dan niks.
Enig idee wat ik fout doe?

You will need a special tool to copy the CD to a bootable USB key - USB_MultiBoot_9.zip (find attached file in forum, link is on the top)
Unpack to any folder. THE PATH TO YOUR FOLDER MUST BE SIMPLE AND WITHOUT SPACES!
Insert USB flash.
ALL DATA ON YOUR STICK WILL BE ERASED! Please back up before running USB_MultiBoot_9.cmd!
Run USB_MultiBoot_9.cmd. follow text description.
Format utility will apear. Choose NTFS for >=4Gb usb flash and FAT16 for other, Start format, Close after finishing.
diamondsw: Using the “HP format” option works fine for any capacity, and you can use FAT32 without problems (I used a 4GB stick). This can be useful as more systems can read FAT32 than NTFS.
NOTE: If you are doing this from a Vista machine, you may need to run PeToUSB.exe as adminstrator in order for this program to recognize the jump drive. (Right click PeToUSB.exe > Properties > Compatibility > “Run this program as an administrator” checked.)
Set options 1 and 2. Set option 0 only if you want to use USB HDD instead of a USB stick.
Do not touch other options if you have no idea about it.
Choose 3 after setting all other options. It will create the image and write it to the USB stick.
Answer Yes to all questions that come up (these vary depending on options selected).
When it finishes copying, remove your usb stick and insert it in the EeePC to install XP.
When you turn on the Eee, hold down “Esc” to choose the boot device and select the USB stick. You'll need to do this at each reboot until XP is fully installed and you've logged in.
Choose Text installation at first time and GUI INSTALLATION TO CONTINUE AFTER REBOOT!
If you get hal.dll not found errors, read carefully the last two last bullets!
IMPORTANT! DO NOT REMOVE USB STICK UNTIL YOU'LL SEE XP's LOGIN SCREEN!

Dit is een NL forum dus waarom in het engels ? Daarnaast als iedereen GoT als zijn eigen administratie zou gebruiken... lijkt me niet zo'n goed idee.

Ik weet zeker dat het de search functie ook ten goede komt. Was goed bedoeld voor mensen die net als ik hier zoeken voor een oplossing die eigelijks voor de hand ligt maar door de bomen het bos niet bereikt.

Afgezien het feit dat je gelijk hebt...

Als jij onder DOS setup doet, geldt hetzelfde als voor een floppy-started installatie - oftewel je hebt smartdrive nodig om er nog een beetje snelheid in te pompen.


Verder moet ik het toch echt eens zijn: als je niet eens de moeite wil nemen om je verhaal in het nederlands te willen neerzetten maar goedkoop een copy-paste doet heeft dit topic weinig nut.

Die opmerking die je weg hebt gehaald in je eigen post doet wat dat betreft helemaal de deur dicht.
