HP CD-Writer+ 8100 Firmware 1.0n (HACKED)
=========================================
NOTICE: THIS FIRMWARE UPDATE IS NOT ENDORSED BY, OR RELEASED BY, HEWLETT
PACKARD. IT IS A MODIFIED FIRMWARE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Description
-----------
This firmware is the Sony CRX-100E 1.0n firmware released recently by Sony,
and posted for download on
www.cdrinfo.com . It has been known for a while
that CRX-100E firmware will work on an HP 8100 (because they are physically
identical), but it will cause the drive's name to change to Sony CRX-100E.
This firmware is a hacked version of the same firmware which maintains your
drive as being an HP 8100, which results in:
1. The drive will call itself by the usual name, just with version 1.0n.
2. The LEDs will work as in HP 8100 version 1.0g, unlike what happens when
you "upgrade" to a Sony CRX-100E.
3. You can undo this flash using HP's normal flash utility, because the drive
doesn't change names.
