WSUS 3 herstart servers automatisch

Ik heb een vervelend probleem met WSUS 3 op windows 2003

Een aantal servers worden geupdate door een WSUS server. Servers worden netjes gevonden.
Ik krijg ook te zien welke updates nodig zijn.
Onder WSUS zijn een aantal groepen aangemaakt.
De updates worden op de server gedownload en om 2:00 uur geinstalleerd.

De server mag NIET rebooten. Dit hebben we in de policy geregeld....dachten we.
Helaas worden servers na installatie gereboot!!
We hebben een aantal instellingen aangepast om te testen, maar helaas.

Hieronder een uitdraai van de policy.

Op de server is in de eventlog goed te zien dat na de update de server wordt gereboot.
De server krijgt de goede policy (gpresult).
Er zijn geen andere policies die dit kunnen overrulen.

We zitten dus een beetje vast.

Misschien een deadline op die updates? Dan reboot 'ie, ondanks dat je dat niet zou willen

Nee dat ziet er niet op.

Na wat onderzoel lijkt het erop dat het iets van WSUS zelf is. Dus by design.

De optie in de policy No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations Enabled
gaat alleen op voor machines waar iemand op ingelogd is.
Dus wanneer er niemand op de machine is ingelogd wordt deze gewoon gereboot

Nu je dat zo zegt inderdaad, ik heb dat ooit eens ergens gelezen, had het nog in m'n bookmarks: Managing the WSUS Automatic Updates Client Download, Install, and Reboot Behavior with Group Policy

Als ie niet mag rebooten moet je niet

4 - Auto download and schedule the install

Kiezen maar voor optie 3: Notify for install
En
Allow Automatic Updates immediate installation

Dat zorgt ervoor dat non-reboot patches direct geinstalleerd kunnen worden, maar reboot-patches wachten op een admin logon.


De beoordelings "fout" is dat je de mogelijkheden van de gekozen tooling niet toepast voor jouw specifieke wensen (niet rebooten).

* Ik zet bewust "fout" tussen aanhalingstekens omdat het natuurlijk niet echt een fout is, meer een slight oversight.

Okee ik heb nu optie 3 gekozen. Koemende tijd eens kijken hoe dit loopt.
