Dit klinkt erg triviaal, maar ik zal eventjes mijn lastige situatie uitleggen.
Ik wou op mijn Acer Aspire 1692 Fedora Core 7 installeren. Kon al geen grafische install doen omdag mijn laptopscherm gewoon zwart bleef. Dus maar textueel geinstalleerd. Eens geinstalleerd kon ik beginnen in console vorm. Dus ff naar runlevel 5 gaan, en m'n scherm ging terug zwart...
Achter wat zoekwerk, en uit pure wanhoop geprobeerd om mijn scherm van mijn vaste pc aan te sluiten op m'n laptop.
En opeens sprong er beeld op het scherm van mijn vaste pc, ik had die aangesloten via een VGA kabel op mijn laptop. Dusja, ik dacht, probleem opgelost, hij neemt gewoon het verkeerde scherm, ff aanpassen.

Bleek toch niet zo makkelijk als gezegd, ik sta ondertussen al 2 dagen te zoeken, heb al talloze keren m'n xorg.conf naar de verdommenis geholpen en ik sta nog altijd geen stap dichter :(

Wel raar dat hij de opstart en afsluit cyclus, samen met de TTY wel toont op m'n laptop scherm, maar X org niet toont op m'n laptop scherm.


De technische details:
Laptop: Acer Aspire 1692
GPU: Ati X700, laatste officiële driver geinstalleerd, word herkend door xorg en ingesteld in de .conf
Xorg: 1.3.0.0-9.fc7


Ik kan spijtig genoeg geen kopie tonen van m'n xorg.conf, want ik het is m'n broertje z'n avond op de computer. Maar het is een gewone standaard xorg.conf dat hij maakt met een Xorg -configure en dan testen via X -config <pad naar conf>

Ik heb ook een aspire 1692, dus de vergelijking is hier optimaal :).
Aangezien ik hier Debian draai, en geen problemen ondervind met xorg, op het toevoegen van de juiste resolutie na, zou ik je niet gelijk kunnen vertellen wat het probleem is. Ik kan je echter wel mijn xorg.conf geven, zodat je die kan testen als jij weer op de pc mag. Let wel op dingen als fontpath's enzo, die moet je natuurlijk niet letterlijk overnemen.

Ten tweede: staat er niets in Xorg.0.log?

Toch maar eventjes m'n broertje van de pc geschopt, want ik wil echt dat dit werk :X Dus .conf en log staan in de startpost vermeld nu.

op het eerste zicht gebruik ik een andere driver dan jij :s heb jij de laatste versie van die ati driver wel? Ik had ergens gelezen dat die recent veranderd is, zou dit misschien het probleem kunnen zijn?

Ik gebruik de closed-source ati-driver, die heet inderdaad anders (wel zo handig ;) ). Deze driver heeft betere 3D-acceleratie (ik speel weleens een spelletje, als ik me verveel), maar minder functies. De x700 werkt echter ook met de open source driver, ik heb het ook weleens werkend gehad. Ik had echter wel een paar tweaks nodig, hier is die xorg.conf van de radeon / ati driver.

Een diff'je laat het volgende zien: Verander je driver naar radeon, enable eventueel compositing & aiglx, voeg wat modelines toe en geef je kaart wat extra opties mee. Omdat ik in een aardige bui ben zal ik je xorg.conf even voor je aanpassen. Maak van te voren wel een backup, als je dat gedaan hebt, knal je deze config neer. Die zou moeten werken.
