Hey, all! It seems to me the ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe is very sensitive when it comes to memory. Right now I'm running 2X 1 Gig of A-data PC 6400 RAM, and I'd like to add an extra gig in the "black" mobo RAM slots. I have tried more of the A-data brand, (as 2X 512MB sticks), and also Corsair, (the same 2X 512MB), but nothing seems to work. Either my computer will not post at all, or I'll get a "Windows cannot load because the following file is missing or corrupt." error. When I use just the original 2X 1 gig sticks of A-data RAM, everything works just fine. Any advice? Am I just stuck with a highly "sensitive" mobo? Just incase, here are my rig's stats: NZXT full tower case, Thermaltake 750 watt Toughpower PSU, 2X 1-gig A-data PC 6400 RAM, 2X EVGA 7950 GT's, 4X 250 gig Hitachi's in RAID 0, 1X 160 gig Hitachi, (data back up), Creative Labs X-Fi Extreme Gamer sound card, and, of course, the afforementioned mobo.

The color of the slots is a bit confusing on this board. A Channel A1/A2 are actually the first set of slots (yellow and black) closest to the processor, and B Channel B1/B2 are the next. Check page 2-15 of the Asus manual.
It sounds like you have your 1GB's in the yellow slots. Put them next to each other in the same channel (you aren't going to get Dual Channel this way, but it seems you weren't anyway).
Put both your 1GB sticks in the first group (A1/A2) and your two 512MB's in B1/B2, so that you have one in both black and yellow slots. Let me know what happens.

Hey! Thanks for your info. I followed your instructions, (and even read my manual), and the computer would not even post with the RAM sticks configured next to each other. Do you have another suggestion?

Did you try just the 1GB's in the first channel bank (no 512's) and get no post?

No I did not try that. I will see what happens and post the results. Thanks again!

Okay. No doubt this board has some comfort issues with RAM, but I am inclined to think there is a latency issue with your 1's vs. 512's. What BIOS are you running on the SLI-SE?

I have the same mobo, yes it's picky, I had a heck of a time loading Win XP on it. Only 2GB ram not sure which slots they're in.
I ended up getting the Kingston RAM as specified in the owners manual.

Yeah, Asus seems to be pretty tight with their RAM QVL's, but check the Asus forums and you can usually find an owner with the same RAM experience. BIOS upgrades have helped alot (0604 cured a bunch of DDR2 800 issues) but not all. I stepped back to 667's just because the board was more work than fun. Any board that is targeted for tweakers and OC junkies is bound to have a bucket load of RAM limitations, but if you aren't OC'ing you should be able to get love for your 6400 RAM. Might take a little playing, but once you find the right mix, this board is pretty awesome.

Your 1GB sticks should be in the yellow slots and your 512 in the black slots (or vice versa) for dual channel. To run 4 sticks of ram is ussually difficult on most boards, specially this one. Try increasing the timming (make sure it is running at 2T) and lowering the frequency (667). Try 667 at 4-4-4-12-auto-auto or even 5-5-5-15-auto-auto (or somewhere in between). These are still playable speeds but benchmarks will be a bit low.
For best help, go to the Asus forums at: usa.asus.com (usa of course) or
www.asus.com (international). If you update your bios, i would suggest a new install of XP. The latest bios is 0704 i believe.

Not arguing, but according to page 2-16 and 2-20 of the manual, Dual Channel is supported either when Channel A = Channel B (Black/Yellow A is one channel, Black/Yellow B is one channel - indicated by 'B' in the QVL) and some QVL RAM is also supported as Dual Channel in Yellow/Yellow - Black/Black (indicated by a 'C' in the QVL).
You can get Dual Channel in either configuration with the right RAM.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think i'm going to flash my BIOS, (I'm pretty sure I don't have the latest version), and then try the Kingston RAM. Anybody want 2 Gigs of A-data RAM? Just kidding.
