Xorg.conf bewerken voor widescreen

Probleem
Ik heb een Acer 1916Ws met een Geforce 6600GT. Zoals veel mensen met een breedbeeldscherm krijg ik niet standaard de native resolution in Ubuntu. Ik heb al van alles geprobeerd.

Geprobeerde oplossingen
-Xorg.conf handmatig bewerken door 1440*900 als resolutie in te voeren
resultaat: dat werkte alleen kreeg ik toen een scroll venster waarbij in de standaard ubuntu gnome layout niet de 2 balken tegelijk zichtbaar konden zijn. Ik las dat dat aan de viruele resolutie lag maar dat heb ik niet kunnen verhelpen.

-nieuwe automatisch herkenning
resultaat: werkte niet

-modeline aanmaken voor resolutie
toen crashte mijn hele X en kon ik gelukkig nog een backup terugzetten

en nog een paar andere oplossingen die niks veranderden.

Ik neem aan dat je bij Modes overal "1440x900" toegevoegd hebt? Dat werkt bij mij namelijk prima, dat is zelfs de enige resolutie die ik daar heb staan.

Dat is ook wat ik net gedaan heb en sindsdien kan ik via System > Preferences > Screen Resolution (in Ubuntu) de bewuste resolutie kiezen.

ik heb zelfs helemaal geen mode lines in me config en het werkt ook. (xorg detecteerd gewoon de native resolutie van je panel)

Hier ook. Helemaal automatisch. Ik denk dat je beter kunt zoeken naar een manier om de automatische detectie goed te krijgen.

Bedankt allemaal het is gelukt. Ik heb elke resolutie vervangen door 1440x900 en toen werd het goed herkend. Sorry ik dacht dat het ook al had moeten werken zoals ik het had gedaan.
