[Vista] Onboard videokaart werkt niet met NVidia kaart

Hallo allemaal,

ik heb een Asrock Conroe945G moederbord. Hierop zit een onboard videokaart, namelijk de Intel Media Accelerator. Met een bijgeleverd DVI kaartje dat je in de PCI-16 kan stoppen kan je tot een dual-screen opstelling komen. Mijn bedoeling was om de onboard (zonder de DVI kaart) samen met een Asus Geforce 7300 te gebruiken, waardoor ik er twee beeldschermen en een tv op kan aansluiten.

Nu het probleem: zodra ik in Vista kom geeft hij de melding dat er één videokaart is uitgezet wegens compatibiliteitsproblemen. De dingen die ik heb geprobeerd:
- in bios de opstartmethode veranderen (GMT, hoeveelheid MB's, met PCI-16 videokaart opstarten etc)
- nieuwste Nvidia drivers geinstalleerd, ook Asus drivers geprobeerd
- nieuwste Intel drivers geinstalleerd
Het blijft maar niet werken. In Windows XP (dual boot) werkt alles perfect. Daar kan ik gewoon drie beeldschermen gebruiken. Weet iemand misschien een oplossing? Bij voorbaar dank.

Ik heb gekeken wat de BIOS updates voor extra opties geven.
- modify EIST code => voor cpu
- modify SMART option => harde schijf
- new microcode for a-1 stepping conroe => nieuwe cpu ondersteuning
Volgens mij kan dat het niet zijn. Het lijkt me dat het dan ook niet zou werken in WinXP.

Multimonitor Support in WDDM

On Windows Vista, older XPDM drivers still work and the multi-monitor behavior with XPDM drivers hasn't changed, because the operating system uses the legacy graphics stack.

However, the Windows Vista Display Driver Model (WDDM) brings fundamental changes to the management of multiple graphics adapters and external displays. This includes a new restriction, because WDDM drivers do not support "heterogeneous multi-adapter" multi-monitor implementations. Specifically:

All graphics adapters in a system must use the same display driver model. That is, all of them should either be running XPDM or WDDM. The driver models are mutually exclusive, and Windows Vista does not allow the simultaneous loading of both an XPDM driver and a WDDM driver.

If a system has one graphics adapter with a XPDM driver and another with a WDDM driver, then Windows Vista will choose the POST device, which is the one with VGA resources. This is commonly referred to as the "VGA adapter."

If multiple graphics adapters are present in a system, all of them must use the same WDDM driver. If there are two graphics adapters with WDDM drivers from two different manufacturers, then Windows will disable one of them. The VGA adapter will be enabled, and the second device will be disabled.

Notice that XPDM drivers still support heterogeneous multi-adapter as they did in Windows XP. A user who has such a configuration working fine in Windows XP will encounter a problem when upgrading to Windows Vista. An external monitor connected to one of the graphics adapters will have no video signal, because it is disabled.

Kan wel, maar niet helemaal zoals je verwacht.

Het grappige is dat ik de post van Lennart al had gevonden. Daarom dacht ik juist dat het WEL zou werken. Er staat daar dat je voor Aero 2 identieke drivermodels moet hebben. Ik ging er vanuit dat Aero gewoon uitgeschakeld zou worden en alles zou werken. Dit is wel en behoorlijke tegenvaller. Misschien tijd om toch weer terug te gaan naar Windows XP. Is er geen work/around voor te vinden?

Had ik gedaan, maar mijn vorige post sloeg op dit(post van Lennart):

If you want to use the full Aero user interface with Windows Vista, and you have multiple video cards installed, Vista requires that all video cards use the same driver.

At a minimum, this means that all video cards need to use a chipset from the same manufacturer, for example all cards have either an ATI or Nvidia chipset.

You can still use video cards with chipsets from different manufacturers, but you'll be limited to the basic user interface.
