error 8252, error reading epbr

"error 8252, error reading epbr" is de melding die ik krijg tijdens opstarten.
Systeem:
1e HD met 3 partities n.m. 2 xp installaties en bootmagic partitie. Deze HD is als master aangesloten met een bootmagic menu actief
2e HD (met data) als slave aangesloten

Ik heb al een aardig idee wat het probleem is: ik krijg n.m. de melding wanneer ik het Bootmagic menu activeer en ik heb de 2e HD op de IDE kabel aangesloten.

dus 1e HD alleen aangesloten met bootmagic menu actief geen probleem
2e HD erbij zonder bootmagic menu actief geen probleem
2e HD erbij met bootmagic menu actief krijg ik deze error

Probleem ligt w.s. bij de 2e HD
Ik denk n.m. dat op de 2e HD ook nog een Extented Partition Boot Record (EPBR) staat.

Oorspronkelijk heeft deze 2e HD namelijk als solo-schijf in een andere computer gezeten, en stonden op deze HD ook meerdere partities met een Bootmagicmenu.

Toen ik deze HD als 2e HD in het huidige systeem erbij heb gezet, heb ik met Partition magic alle partities weggehaald en de HD opnieuw als NTFS geformateerd. W.s. is echter een EPBR achtergebleven op deze, nu 2e HD. Wanneer ik het bootmagicmenu activeer denk ik dat hij op de 2e HD probeert de EPBR te lezen wat niet lukt.

Dus mijn vraag of deze logica klopt en zo ja, hoe ik op deze 2e HD de EPBR weg kan halen?


aanvulling:
ik heb al wel ontdekt dat ik via Ptedit.exe (in de Bootmagic-directory) naar de EPBR kan gaan van beide HD maar heb geen flauw idee wat verder

Iets verder doorklikken geeft ook nog deze oplossing aan.

I hope you haven´t deleted the bootmagic directory manually. Or the only way to gain back the power of your drives are to reinstall Dos.
Let me give you an advice: Bootmagic and other system manager are strong programs, making huge changes to your drives. If you are not a used system manager, or don´t know what you are doing, don´t use them without help from an experienced friend.
You can´t easily get rid of bootmagic by uninstalling from ADD/REMOVE program.
If you still have your bootmanager installed:
Disable BootMagic in the BootMagic Configuration program by unchecking the "BootMagic Enabled" check box and clicking the "Save/Exit" button. Reboot your machine and delete the \BTMAGIC.PQ subdirectory.
If you have removed the bootmagic:
You should reinstall Ms-dos, so system will have the fdisk/mbr back.
