The simple way seems to do same beneficts:
1) In Mail, click the "Inbox" mailbox
2) Menu "Mailbox" > "Rebuild"
3) Wait?
If you do ?Get Info? on ?Envelope Index? file before 1) and then after 3) you will notice some fat get out of that file.
And, this procedure is suggested as normal maintenance and troubleshooting method for get Mail performance restored to good life.
Apply this for any maibox and folders in Mail.

En de regel (als je de mijne neemt) doet gewoon een cleanup op de sql database waar mail wat info in bewaart. Daar blijft wel 's data in achter die eigenlijk gedelete is namelijk.

Dat gaat dan over postgresql maar 't idee is hetzelfde voor sqlite.
