Na verloop van tijd alternerende ping tijden

We hebben hier een heel vreemd verschijnsel. Als we een switch pingen dan gaat dit in den beginne goed, maar na verloop van tijd (1 minuut) beginnen de ping tijden te alterneren, van erg lang naar erg kort. In het begin is het allemaal redelijk kort.

Tussenliggende netwerkcomponenten zijn Extreme switches en een Juniper netscreen, de doelswitch is een van het merk MRV.
De pings zien er alsvolgt uit: (ip eindigt op 221).

We dachten zelf aan een corrupte extreme switch, het probleem treed namelijk op bij meerdere servers waar we vanaf pingen. Iemand z'n alternerent patroon eerder gezien? het treed ook op met meerdere verschillende server hardware. Van DL380's tot desktop systemen.

En de switch heeft die het druk? Denk dat het de switch is in ieder geval. Weet zo niet hoe je eea kunt nakijken.

Waarom wil je een switch uberhaupt pingen ?

Op een gewonde layer 2 switch is dit alleen maar management en dus een software proces.

Door de switch pingen is veel maatgevender daar het apparaat daar voor bedoeld is.

Wat zijn naast de variabele ping tijden de problemen ?

We willen de switch pingen om te checken hoe de availability van de switch is. We krijgen vanuit ons pakket Solarwinds nogal wat valse "node down" statussen. Vandaar dat we dit willen checken. Nu vermoeden we een netwerk probleem maar ik kan me even geen probleem bedenken welke dit gedrag kan veroorzaken.

Er waren enkele vreemde zaken; er zaten wat 3com spullen die collissions veroorzaakte en wat kruiskabels/geen kruiskabels die waarschijnlijk stoorde.
