Hello, (from FRANCE)

Yesterday, i just installed 2 x WD1500ADFD with the 1260 and i get this problem.
The waiting for controller f/w to come ready is very slow (about 50 seconds) and drive detection failed very often and i get all the last version of the firmware (1.41), BOOT (1.41) and BIOS (1.17) !

What should i do ?

This problem is caused by the compatibility of our current firmware with WD1500ADFD. Please request the Firmware, Boot, and BIOS three files from us. It will be solved by our next release 1.4 version.

I had the same problem with a SCSI controller, what seemed to be the problem was that my chipset of the motherboard didn't like my SCSI controller card. Anyway, did you try to use a new cable?

I got Asus P5W64 (i975P) motherboard and it's not a hardware problem. I test every things imaginable. It a firmware problem. Areca knows about that but the last firmware doesn't change anything.

Yeah ok, but in your first post you say you already have the 1.4 firmware. Thus, it should work, but it doesn't. Maybe you can try another motherboard for testing. I couldn't resolve the problem back then. I switched motherboards and problems were solved. My scsi-card didn't like Nforce chipsets, but he did like VIA chipsets. Intel chipset worked as well, but just not the chipset on my motherboard :(

btw: how did you find the correct subforum, while your native-language is english or french (At least I think :+)

I do not have an Areca card, I just gave you my experience with a similar case I had. Feel free to try my suggestions ;)

About the stuff about the firmware. You wrote: "i get all the last version of the firmware" So I assumed you have the latest firmware. You also wrote: "It will be solved by our next release 1.4 version" Which you already have (quote: "i get all the last version of the firmware (1.41), BOOT (1.41) and BIOS (1.17) !" So if it doesn't work I assume that it has something to do with your motherboard-chipset, because I experienced a similar problem ;)

Any one got the P5W64 with an Areca ??
Areca just told me that in their lab they got some WD1500 ADFD and it works fine.
So the problem is on my side now... I can't change the motherboard coze i don't have any other at hand. I will try to unplug all pci cards and keep the Areca standalone. Try to change the PCIe port too.... I tought the P5W64 was the ultimate motherboard for the C2D and it bugs like hell... my god...

Can't you just borrow some motherboard from someone else, or from the store where you bought the motherboard?

Ik heb dit getypt hier -->

Do you have the ICH7R setup for raid or normal operation (IDE) in the main bios?

There is a incompatibility between ICH?R southbridges en raid controllers when the ICH?R is setup to be used as raid. I also have an Asus P5W64 and cant use my promise EX8350 at the same time with the ICH7R in raid mode (get a blinking cursor before windows can boot). In normal mode everything is fine.

I have had this problem with all my Intel chipset motherboards.
