Hallo,

Ik ben pas overgeschakeld naar Ubuntu, maar mijn Dual screen setup werkt niet. Ik heb op internet gezocht/GoT search gebruikt maar ik kom er echt niet uit.

Ik gebruik Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake, heb een Ati Radeon X1600Pro.
Het is een verse install, en hier is mijn xorg.conf:

Ik heb gezien dat je wat moet veranderen in de xorg.conf file -> geprobeerd, lukte niet.
aticonfig geprobeerd -> lukte niet
de Ati Config Tool in Gnome geprobeerd -> lukte niet.

Wie kan mij helpen?

vergeet die tools maar - das bagger. Als dual head wilt heb je geen DRI. Make your choice. Anders dan dat, heb ik het werkend en dus zonder DRI omdat ja.... fglrx dat niet ondersteund als dus mijn log files.
maar goed... http://gila.is-a-geek.com/~gila/xorg.conf kijkt u maar eens. Dat werkt.

Verander eerst eens je driver van vesa naar fglrx. Ik neem aan dat je onder windows ook niet de vesa-driver gebruikt voor een dual-screen setup.

@Gila :

2 devices, 2 monitoren en 2 screens maken en je hebt een dual-screenopstelling met dri (zowieso de enigste manier die ik ooit geprobeert heb en het is altijd gelukt zo).

Ik heb de Ati driver geinstalleerd, en dan de conf file van Gila geprobeerd, maar dat mocht niet baten.

Ik heb nu een werkende dual screen setup. Het betreft mijn laptop scherm (1280x800) en mijn externe monitor (1280x1024) die aan de laptop hangt. Helaas is het niet mogelijk om Beryl aan de praat te krijgen icm met deze dual screen setup. Dit werkt alleen als je gebruik maakt van MergeFB (ati) of Twinview (NVidia) maar de pest daar van is dat je dan twee dezelfde resoluties moet gebruiken dus bv scherm 1: 1280x800 en scherm 2: 1280x800 en dat is geen mooie resolutie voor een 17" CRT. Ik heb trouwens deze site gebruikt om mijn config samen te stellen. Dit topic is ook wel nuttig om eens te bekijken (Howto's van oa Twinview, Xinerama en MergeFB).

Ik heb de manier van Jorick geprobeerd, maar dan word mijn rechterscherm oranje. Als ik mijn muis er heen wil bewegen word hij tegen gehouden.
Wat moet ik doen?

De officiele ATI drivers komt met een tool (naam even vergeten)
Je geeft via de command line mee dat je dual monitor wilt en dit stelt hij dan ook in xorg.conf voor je.

Ik heb ook geen linux bij de hand om het te vinden, maar weet nog dat een klasgenoot met ubuntu die methode had gebruikt om dual-monitor aan de praat te krijgen.

Gezien je de 'vesa' drivers gebruikt ga ik ervan uit dat je niet de officiele drivers hebt van ATi.
In de eerste post stond 'vesa'.. in de laatste 'fglrx' dus ik ben stil :X
