Ubuntu 6.06 en Mac OS X, zelfde home-dir mounten?

Ik heb op mijn laptop zowel Ubuntu als OS X draaien (nog geen parallels of dat soort gein, het is een dualboot G4). Nu is vaak het geval dat het bestand dat ik nodig heb, op de andere partitie staat. Nu kan je natuurlijk gewoon die partities mounten waar je wilt, om erbij te kunnen. Toch vind ik dit een beetje omslachtig.

Nu wil ik mijn iBook opnieuw gaan installeren, en daarbij een partitie maken die ik zowel bij OS X als bij Ubuntu in mijn /home directory mount. Met dezelfde username zou het dus betekenen dat deze 2 OS'en dezelfde directory (/home/dh) gaan gebruiken voor hun files.

Is dit verstandig of gaat dit problemen opleveren?

Mac OS gebruikt standaard HFS+, en die kun je volgens mij niet zomaar mounten in linux, en volgens mij kun je in Mac OS X ook niet zomaar ext2/ext3 mounten? Weet niet of er een FS dat ze beiden supporten behalve FAT.. (en da's bah)

Na wat googlen kom ik dit tegen:

The Linux kernel version 2.6.16.1 has a driver for providing read/write access to non-journaled HFS+ partitions. For copying and working with a few files it seems to work fine. But every time I tried anything really nontrivial, e.g., copying a large directory onto an HFS+ partition, the partition became hopelessly corrupted (so that the fsck and OS X disk utility programs couldn't repair it).

I highly recommend using only a small HFS+ partition for sharing files. There seems to currently (as of 2006-04-03) be no robust trustworthy file system that is supported by both Intel OS X and Linux 2.6.16.1, except FAT32, which doesn't support symlinks, users, etc. Since your personal data is probably extremely important, keep it in an ext3 partition.
