Rumors of another company buying Aureal and/or A3D have been too long in existence without any solid information or resolution. At this point, I doubt A3D will be saved or any of Aureal's technology will be put to use in a fashion that we are used to. Maybe it will live on, but considering the overwhleming (and I mean overwhelming) support of and presence of EAX at E3, I think not.
It's been too long since we've heard anything positive from Aureal. Our requests to release the last driver build have gone unanswered. All of our contacts at Aureal have now left the company.
Is this the end? Probably. There will be no work or enhancements done to Vortex of Sound at this time. Should something incredible occur (someone buys A3D, Vortex, and/or Aureal), we will look into bringing Vortex of Sound back to the high level we were at in the past. But unless something like that occurs, there is no point or need for updates to Vortex of Sound.
Of wat denk je van dit 'berichtje' van The adrenaline Vault:
.
Conclusie: van aureal kunnen we waarschijnlijk niet veel meer verwachten, en daarom kunnen we waarschijnlijk ook heel erg weinig spellen nog verwachten die a3d ondersteunenAureal Inc., soundboard manufacturer and creator of the A3D 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 PC audio standards, has been silent since announcing in March and April that it was restructuring upper-management and filing Chapter 11 due to financial trouble. Although speculation of Aureal’s demise followed the announcements, no authorized statement was made regarding the closure of the organization. A number of new indicators now suggest the Fremont, Calif.-based group is closing its doors for good, including the possible shut down of the Aureal and A3D websites. Despite this and the subsequent absence of support, Aureal’s Vortex soundboards are still reaching a number of retailers through vendors said to be clearing older inventories.
The most recent word the Adrenaline Vault received regarding the status of Aureal was e-mail from a company official in response to a request for investor information. “Aureal Inc. is operating under Chapter 11 laws and is not sending out investor relations materials,” the June 9 e-mail read, suggesting Aureal still has a pulse. Indeed, Chapter 11 is unique in that it can be used for business reorganizations, and allows the debtor to remain in possession of all assets as well as the ongoing business. Yet it can be also expensive and time consuming, and entail drawn-out litigation with creditors. The ultimate purpose of Chapter 11 is to forge a plan for compensation; however, the administrative burdens and financial pressure can be considerable. A second related clue regarding the status of Aureal is that its shares are no longer being traded in the public arena.
These circumstances are the latest in a series of crises for the sound board manufacturer. Aureal filed its petition for relief under Chapter 11 on April 5 in California in an effort to facilitate a reorganization of its financial affairs. This followed the March 24 resignation of all of its executive officers, including its president and CEO, its chief technical officer, its chief financial officer, and its chief operating officer and general counsel, along with all senior staff members. The Board of Aureal at that time said in a press statement that it was searching to replace or turnaround management, and was considering all possible actions to either sell the corporation and its assets, or wind it down. Aureal also announced its financial results in March, reporting considerable losses.
At this time, no public relations staff are on hand and Aureal reps are not returning phone calls or e-mails. In addition, their websites, through which consumers could order product, obtain technical help and download drivers, appear to have been shut down for the moment. But Vortex soundboards are still reaching retail. The Adrenaline Vault contacted OfficeMax's corporate merchandise office and learned that the Aureal Vortex SQ1500 and Aureal Vortex SQ2500 soundboards will be featured in an upcoming sales circular. In addition, CompUSA is selling both cards and offering a manufacturer’s rebate through I-O Magic Corporation, with which Aureal partnered to promote and sell its sound cards. This was upon Aureal dropping its use of third parties for building and selling cards based on its chipset. A search through the I-O Magic website dug up nothing on the Vortex cards, including driver support.
