Soundcards that import new sounds?

Some sound cards can import new sounds. They are simply downloaded to the sound card, which might have 512 KB (Sound Blaster AWE64) or 4 MB RAM (Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold) available for the user's own sounds.

Are there new soundcards with the same functionality? If yes, which one? If no, why?

You're referring to the use of a soundcard as a "poor-man's sampler". This is not very usefull anymore as computers have become faster. You can now have a complete software sampler + filters etc, with the same (or even less) delay as you had with the soundbanks on old soudcards. It's a matter of hardware being replaced by software, which gives you more flexibility.

I don't know if there are any cards out there that are still able to use soundbanks, but I think you would be much better of using things like reason as a sampler .. or buy a hardware sampler :)

Soundblaster Live, probably Audigy as well, support loading soundfonts similar to the AWE series.

Yeah, but I believe they now also use software (part of the driver) as their sampler. It's not a hardware solution like the AWE64.

Yeah, well it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you need soundfonts for some reason or another, that works fine. If you are looking for a cheap sampler, better look for other software sollutions. Most software samplers can read Vienna soundbanks.

48k was toen meer dan genoeg.

I wonder how it is done with the USB version of the soundblaster, maybe that thing has a memory for the soundbanks.

Otherwise you have to get an external MIDI box......

Welcome at GoT. Since GoT is a Dutch forum, the users should be able to write in Dutch. In case you aren't able to do so, you, unfortunately, have to search for an answer somewere else. Good luck in finding the right soundcard.
