Broken Sword: The Angel of Death begint in New York. George wordt verliefd op een mysterieuze vrouw die verdwijnt en hem naar een oeroude verhaal brengt die de wereld in gevaar kan brengen. Biblical scholars have long agreed that Moses was more than just a poor shepherd's boy. It is said that he was a natural scholar and that from an early age he devoted himself to unravelling the mysterious arts of alchemy. Indeed, he read documents that even in those times were already very ancient - the scant remains of older, extint civilisations. Amongst these documents, it is believed; lay the primitive blueprints for an awesome weapon... Moses was able to construct this weapon. And when the Pharaoh refused passage for the Israelites out of Egypt, he unleashed it upon the Egyptians with terrifying effect. The Pharaoh capitulaed. The Exodus began. The weapon was the final and most terrible of the Great Plagues. Uncannily, it seemd to be able to kill selectively, leaving the Israelites unharmed. The Egyptians called it - 'The Angel of Death'. Hundreds of years later, the secrets of Moses deadly weapon that could destroy to order was lost, although the memory lived on. Lost. Or so it was thought New York - present day. One-time adventurer George Stobbart sweats at a cramped desk in a bail-bond agency deep inside Harlem's derelict projects. He has had an arduous year since his dimatic battle with a 'dragon' after he was whisked away by secret service agencies and intensively interrogated. Eventually they declared 'The Glastonbury Phenomenon' to be just another case of mass hysteria. George returned home, wanting only to work on patents till the day he died. But his company had gone bust. And soon he found no one would hire him. He was blacklisted. In desperation, he took the only job on offer - legal aide at Big Bros's Bail Bonds. The bottom of the heap. His new clients - crack-heads, gangstas, murders. His new life - a tiny apartment in the most dangerous part of town. One day I'm going to get out of here, he thinks, as he stares at his queue of tattoed, menacing, bling-bling clients... Same hope. Interview met Charles Cecil (bedenker van Broken Sword) |
It's both point & click and direct control. How does that work? You can choose one or the other? Yes, you can play purely point & click, or you can choose to use both the mouse and the keyboard. So you make sure that if the puzzle's in there, it has something to do with the story, and moves you forward? Absolutely, and also, like on the plane, the box puzzle was not to block you, it was to balance the plane. In the cave, it wasn't a block, it was there to put pressure on the pressure pad so you could move to jump and step on something. So where we use those sorts of puzzles, they'll be used in conjunction with other puzzles. It sounds like an intriguing story. I've really focused on the story. With Broken Sword 3, it was a big jump. We were going from 2D to 3D. We were talking about technology, we were talking about interfaces. With Broken Sword 4 there's a lot I can take for granted, because we have the engine, we have a control system, which we're improving, but other people are responsible for the technology, other people are responsible for creating the art assets. I approve them, and I get very involved in them, but I don't have to worry about whether we use Maya or Max, or whether we have to buy new PCs, or any of that dull stuff. So I can focus on the puzzles and the story, and the guys that I'm working with on that are experienced on our games. I'm working with a guy called Neil Richards, who I worked with on Broken Sword 3. The two guys that are level designers / implementers, both were ex-Revolution. The guy writing the music, he wrote music for Broken Sword 3. A lot of the team are still together, it's just in a very different way than the way we were for Broken Sword 3. |
