Hi Everybody,

I have created a new set of instructions. Hopefully these instructions will help our members of this forum solved the lastest version of installing Zone Alarm. All I can do is try and I will do so until I find the right solution.

Instead of using the update feature in Zone Alarm, PLEASE try the following.

First of all, PLEASE go to the following threads and download your fresh copy of Zone Alarm, download it on to your Desktop, but DO NOT INSTALL IT, until you completely followed the instructions BELOW.

ZoneAlarm (FREE)
http://www.zonelabs.com/zadownload

ZoneAlarm with Antivirus
http://www.zonelabs.com/zaavdownload

ZoneAlarm Pro
http://www.zonelabs.com/zapdownload

ZoneAlarm Security Suite
http://www.zonelabs.com/zasuitedownload

2.) Once you have downloaded the FRESH COPY of ZONE ALARM Version that you want. PLEASE DISCONNECT from the INTERNET, STOP ALL BACKGROUND RUNNING PROGRAMS, THIS INCLUDES ANTI-VIRUS, SECURITY, ETC. JUST KEEP WHAT IS NEEDED TO RUN WINDOWS.

3.) You might want to try a clean uninstall of your program followed by a re-installation.

To perform a clean uninstall...

Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs

RIGHT-click
on Uninstall Zone Labs Security, then select Properties. Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may be different on your system):

"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninstexe"

Change it to:

"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean
(add a space and then the /clean)

Click OK to save the new command line.

4.) Now go into your firewall under the OVERVIEW TAB, then to PREFERENCE TAB, scroll down until you see the GENERAL TAB and it will have a small box with a checkmark in it with the following words, LOAD ZONE ALARM AT STARTUP. PLEASE REMOVE THE CHECKMARK. You will receive a popup warning message, just click on YES.

5.) Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall Zone Labs Security Click OK to run the uninstaller, and OK any security alerts that pop up. say "Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files and YES to any other messages that popup, this will allow TrueVector to shut down. Reboot After rebooting, check for the following folders, and delete them if you find them:

- manually delete the Internet Logs folder (under your main Windows
folder)

- manually remove the Zone Labs folder (under your Program Files folder)

- manually delete the Zone Labs folder (under your Windows\System32
folder)

- Empty your temp folder (something like C:\Documents and
Settings\LOGIN-NAME\Local Settings\Temp)

- Empty the Windows Pre-Fetch folder (under your main Windows folder)

- Empty your recycle bin

- Now reboot

6.) REMEMBER DON'T LET ANY OTHER PROGRAMS RESTART AGAIN, LIKE WHAT I MENTIONED IN STEP 2. STOP ALL BACKGROUND RUNNING PROGRAMS, THIS INCLUDES ANTI-VIRUS, SECURITY, ETC. JUST KEEP WHAT IS NEEDED TO RUN WINDOWS. YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO CAUSE ZONE ALARM NOT TO BE INSTALLED PROPERLY.

7.) Now go back to your DESKTOP to where you have downloaded a FRESH COPY of ZONE ALARM AND INSTALL IT.

8.) PLEASE LET ZONE ALARM configured your PROGRAM SETTINGS. WHY? There is a very good possibility that when you manually install the Program Settings, something DOES NOT get properly installed, therefore causing major problems with your installment of Zone Alarm. Later on if you decide you do not want a specific program in your Programs Control Panel, then remove it. If it is required, you will get alert about it allowing or disallowing it. That's your decision. I have always done this, never a problem by letting Zone Alarm configure my settings.

9.) When everything is totally completed, PLEASE reboot your system and connect back on to the Internet, make sure all your other programs are activated this includes Zone Alarm and the ones you had disabled.

THAT'S IT, YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR NEW VERSION UP AND RUNNING. I TRIED TO MAKE THESE INSTRUCTIONS AS CLEAR AS POSSIBLE.

GOOD LUCK!!

Now, it may or may not stay in the same panel "Folder Options", look where it says, in the "View" tab, "APPLY TO ALL FOLDERS", click on that. This way all your folders will show the change. Then go ahead and get out of Folder Options and back to your desktop screen. Then start your search for the Zone Alarm files. Click on Start, then Search or Find, and select Files. Last but not least, delete the hidden license file in C:\WINDOWS\system32 called 'zllictbl.dat '

16.) I recommend you to go through your entire registry and make sure all the files that are on the uninstall instructions are checked one by one. As it only takes one little registry key or file, to cause problems.

17.) **NOTE** After you have successully uninstalled your old version of Zone Alarm and NO OLD FILES are causing any type of problems, then run the new installer to install Zone Alarm. Remember the one you downloaded on to your desktop, prior to uninstalling your Zone Alarm and hopefully you downloaded a FRESH COPY not the very same installer.

18.) These are the basic uninstall Zone Alarm instructions, they SHOULD UNINSTALL all your old Zone Alarm files. If for some reason you still have problems, YOU DID NOT FOLLOW THESE EXACT INSTRUCTIONS PROPERLY, THEREFORE YOU NEED TO GO BACK AND CHECK EACH FILE AND MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT EXIST IN YOUR COMPUTER. Now, if it continues to stop your installation of Zone Alarm, then PLEASE post your question or questions giving our Volunteers exact error code messages, or anything that can help us solve your exact problem.

THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK!
