Zegt genoeg lijkt me...
The first PC networks used the serial port and networking software to link PCs together. It quickly became apparent, however, that the serial port was just too slow to handle large volumes of data. Also, serial data can be sent only over short distances, making it difficult to connect computers located far apart. (Even though the RS-232's 50 ft limit on cabling is an outdated spec, most users still turn to RS-485 or RS-422 when longer cable runs are required.) In response to the need for transferring data more quickly and over longer distances, special network adapters were developed. These adapters were designed simply as high-speed data ports. It was left up to the software companies to develop protocols that used the adapters to transfer data among all the computers and devices in a network. The network protocol wars soon followed, as many companies developed their own protocols in an effort to corner the market by having their protocol become the de facto standard.

[q]Bassie[/q]

When does the hurting stop ?

The number of things that Arthur couldn't believe he was seeing was fairly large
