ARCserve: BITS Writer does not exist on the system...

Ik heb een probleem met Brightstor ARCserve 11.5 SP1 op een SBS 2003 server. Zowel server als applicatie zijn voorzien van de laatste updates.

Writer (\\SERVER01\BITS Writer) does not exist on the system

De melding blijft ook als ik VSS uitschakel in de properties van de jobs. Verder lijkt de job goed te worden uitgevoerd.

Helaas kan ik weinig vinden over dit onderwerp, ook Google en de supportsite van CA laten me in de steek. Iemand een idee?

By experts-exchange is er iemand met een probleem met de BITS writer icm veritas.

De oplossing die hier werkte (let wel icm veritas) was het registreren van OLE32.DLL
(commando: REGSVR32 OLE32.DLL)

Met het commando: "vssadmin list writers" kan je zien welke writers geinstalleerd en geregistreerd zijn, en of er errors zijn mbt 1 van de writers.

Bij Microsoft is Hier bij KB833167 nog wat geschreven over VSS foutmeldingen, misschien zit er wat voor je tussen

Ik zal nog ff verder kijken voor je

Microsoft geeft nog een vss update package aan, misschien dat een herinstallatie de componenten van vss weer op zijn plek zet, en ze juist registreert bij het systeem?

1. On the server, run "services.msc", make sure that the Microsoft Software
Shadow Copy Provider Service is started.

2. From this error information you have applied, the most possible cause is
the VSS files are not correctly registered or there is incorrectly register
keys. Please refer to the following steps:

- stop the Volume Shadow Copy service, then open a command window and execute the following commands

Cd /d %windir%\system32
Regsvr32 ole32.dll
Regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
Vssvc /Register
Regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
Regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll

Then, please check the following registry key:

a. Start -> Run "regedit" (without quotation marks)

b. Expand to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup.

c. Check SystemSetupInProgress: REG_DWORD. The Value should be 0.

Restarted the server and check whether the issue has been fixed.

Deze stappen registreren de VSS componenten opnieuw, wat (gezien je een melding krijgt over een gebrek aan bits writers) misschien ook een oplossing zou kunnen zijn, mocht dit niet helpen, dan zou je

3. If the issue persists, please perform Clean Boot on the server. To do
so,

a. Click Start->Run, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks) and
click OK.

b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click the
"Startup" tab.

c. Click to clear all the check marks from the list box under "Startup".

d. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft Services" box and
then click the "Disable All" button to disable the non-Microsoft services.

e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.

f. After restarting, please check whether this issue still exists.

Deze stappen nog kunnen volgen om te kijken of er een non-microsoft service is die de boel verprutst.
