[Ubuntu] Live CD problemen met ATI video

Dag mensen,

ik heb de beta 2 van Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) Live CD gedownload (AMD64-versie)
Nu zitten er natuurlijk nog foutjes in, maar die hele Live CD wil gewoon niet in X.
Hier heb ik al eerder problemen mee gehad: Mijn ATI RADEON X850XT

Dit is dezelfde fout die ik krijg wanneer ik Ubuntu 5.10 installeer met de 'ati' driver (ipv 'vesa') en wanneer ik FC5 upgrade met fglrx van livna.org.

Weet iemand of dit een bekende fout is, of zou het aan mijn hardware kunnen liggen?
En hoe los ik dit op? Downgraden naar i386 is vooralsnog niet echt mijn bedoeling.

Volgens mij ligt dit gewoon aan de drivers voor de ati. Ik kon mijn kaart ook alleen maar in vesa draaien. Ik heb wel een mooie giude gevonden voor het compileren van de drivers en nu werkt het bij mij. Ik heb de link nu even niet maar zal vanavond even kijken.

Als dit gewoon aan de drivers van ATI ligt, dan snap ik niet dat de makers van Ubuntu deze nog steeds opnemen in hun release. Dat ze gebrekkig zijn kan ik nog begrijpen, maar uberhaupt niet eens de LiveCD kunnen starten is toch wel heel raar.

Het is ook meer iets van de combinatie met je hardware. Ik heb een x800 gto^2 en deze werd eerst altijd herkent als een x850 en nog wat. Dit klopt in principe ook wel daar er toch iets andere firmware in zit. Ik vermoed dat dit problemen opleverd met de drivers.

Die ati-drivers werken bij andere kaarten wel goed. Alleen is de driver ondersteuning van Ati helaas niet altijd even goed te noemen. Helaas werkt volgens mij de ati driver van x.org niet voor jouw.
Dat is jammer, want die werkt eigenlijk altijd goed, weliswaar zonder goede 3d ondersteuning.

Daar heb je helemaal gelijk in. Ati wil nog wel eens de problemen en bugs van Linux gebruikers laag op de prioriteitenlijst zetten en dat is knap frusterend. Zelf heb ik een laptop met Ati Radeon Mobility chipset en dat werkt best goed. Maar dat heeft even geduurd voordat alles werkte.
In mijn desktop heb ik een Nvidia videokaart en dat werkt buitengewoon goed en ik moet zeggen dat de driverondersteuning vanuit Nvidia een stuk beter is.
Maar ja, daar heb jij nu niets aan

Ati linux drivers..... Daar kun je veel ati kopende linux gebruikers de bek over open breken.

Kern van het probleem (zover ik weet, nee ben geen expert) zit hem in de kernel module van fglrx.

Van een live cd alles verwachten betreft fglrx is onmogelijk, maar als je een installatie hebt zou ik het volgende even proberen:

• Download de drivers van de ati-site of de meuktracker.
• Als root/su: chmod +x ati-linux.....run
• <driver-bestand> --buildpkg Ubuntu/dapper
• dpkg -i de packages
• bouw de kernel module
• vanaf een terminal: aticonfig --initial

Ok .. hier ben ik nu mee begonnen.
Ik heb de standaard ATI installatie gestart, maar weet niet welk bestand <driver-bestand> is. En hoe ik een kernel module bouw weet ik ook nog niet, maar daar kom ik wel achter.

Heb je al een bug report gepost op Ubuntu's Launchpad? Zo niet, doe dat a.u.b., dan kunnen de developers er nog iets aan doen. Er is nog een maand de tijd voordat de final versie van Ubuntu 6.06 wordt gereleased, dus ik suggereer dat je snel een bug report post. Wellicht is het dan in de finale versie van 6.06 gefixt, als je geluk hebt.

Dit gaat al fout bij de eerste opdracht.

En op die manier geef je iets terug aan de community voor het gebruik van de Linux, want als niemand een bugreport zou schrijven dan gaat Linux waarschijnlijk nergens meer heen.
Persoonlijk zie ik het schrijven van een bugreport altijd als iets wat je het minste wat je terug kunt doen voor het gebruik van Linux.

Status update:

Vanaf een schone Ubuntu 5.10 installatie heb ik de handleiding op http://wiki.cchtml.com/in...Breezy_Installation_Guide (methode 2) stap voor stap gevolgd. Na een reboot wilde de xserver weer niet opstarten. Ditmaal met log.

Volgens mij wordt dit niet ondersteund op de Launchpad bug-site, omdat er voor deze installation guide speciaal vanuit een repository zonder support ge-update moest worden.

Je hebt nu allemaal dubbele entries erin staan. Dit komt door de aticonfig. Dit had ik volgens mij ook.
Je hebt nu een dubble sectie monitor, device en screen.
- De eerste sectie van monitor een qoute van maken
- De eerste sectie van device een qoute maken
- De eerste sectie van screen een qoute maken

Hmm het zijn dus allemaal de eerste. Verander dit eerst eens.
Het zou dan misschien nog een probleem geven in de sectie module maar dat weet ik niet helemaal zeker meer. Als dat zo is post hem maar eens weer.

Hoe zit dat dan met de Input device? Die moet er ook 2 keer in staan. Of is dat een uitzondering?

Voor de duidelijkheid, dit is een schone Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy) installatie + apt-update, met vervolgens de handleiding van methode 2 op deze pagina, stap voor stap te hebben gevolgd. Hierbij heb ik de default Sections voor Device, Screen en Monitor uitgecommentarieerd.

Oke als ik het goed heb moet je nu nog de load int10 een quote van maken in de Section module. Dat is de foutmelding die die geeft in je log file.

Als je goed leest heb je twee modules input device nodig daar je wel een muis en toetsenbord hebt neem ik aan.

Dit was de oplossing! Geweldig. Nu kan deze driver in elk geval geladen worden. TV-Out werkt ook direct (welliswaar kloonbeeld, maar dat kan ik vast ergens configureren) alleen OpenGL helaas nog niet.
