Mysterious Icon on Sent Items
Question: Lisa W. wrote: I need to know what the square icon that looks like an elbow (it's in red) that appears on certain e-mails that I have sent means. I can't see any consistencies as to when it appears and on which messages. Cannot find explanation on this site or the manual either. Now that I look again, it may also kind of look like a clock set at 4 or 5 pm. THANKS
Answer: Yeah, Lisa, even the best designers can draw a blank at times. We think you are talking about the icon that appears next to an item you have sent to show you that it has not fully been completed. Is this the one you mean?
Next to an appointment, it indicates that not every recipient has accepted the appointment. Next to a task, it indicates that not every recipient has completed the task. Next to other item types, it indicates that not all recipients have opened the item or that not all recipients have deleted the item.
Unlike most of our icons, it doesn't seem to stand for anything in particular that might hint as to its significance. It is the Stonehenge of GroupWise icons, full of mystery, subject of earnest debate, rich with implications. (For example, occasionally it will be pointing due North during the vernal equinox.) The designer who created it has gone to another realm, or we'd ask him what he was thinking.

Een iets completere beschrijving:
Appears next to an item you have sent. If the item has been opened by at least one person, this icon will appear until all recipients have 1) opened the mail, phone message, or reminder note; 2) accepted the appointment; or 3) completed the task.
