Setting its sights on conquering the first wave of mobile TV addicts-to-be, Samsung today unveiled its SGH-P900 handset for Europe as its first offering to support the DMB-T standard for digital terrestrial broadcasting. Timed to coincide with this year's FIFA world cup in Germany, the clamshell will be among the very first to offer such capabilities, and also includes a veritable raft of other high-end features such as a 2 Megapixel camera, audio playback with dedicated hard buttons and a stereo FM radio.
Equipped with a 2.2-inch, 262K colour high resolution QVGA display which rotates into landscape mode for TV viewing, the tri-band SGH-P900 with EDGE will deliver TV viewing as well as streaming video at a rate of 30 FPS. Despite its considerable technical prowess, the size of the handset has been kept comparably small at 92 x 49 x 26 mm, which also includes USB connectivity with PictBridge support; Bluetooth; and even TV output.
With 128 MB of on-board memory and a microSD card slot for memory expansion, the Samsung SGH-P900 is slated for availability in the second quarter of 2006 with details concrening its pricing yet to be disclosed.
