RS232 is a serial interface using Sub-D 25 or 9 pins connectors or RJ45 connectors. RS232 specifies both the electrical and machanical interface. RS232 is an EIA/TIA norm which is equivalent with V.24/V.28 of the CCITT. V.24 however specifies the mechanical interface and V.28 the electrical. Both (RS232,V24/V28) define the same interface and will hereafter be refered to as RS232.
RS232 defines the cable connecting a DTE and a DCE and specifies the connector. It's a single ended interface with one lead for every signal and a ground reference (pin7).
The Sub-D 25 spec, which is officially called RS232C, is the most common one. There is also RS232D, which is RS232 on a RJ45 connector. On an IBM-compatible PC you will often find a Sub-D 9 male for serial connections. This is also RS232 and is officially called EIA/TIA 574.
Maar goed, het is makkelijker andere mensen te laten zoeken die wel iets beters te doen hebben
