[Solaris 10]Toevoegen nieuwe hardware lukt niet

Systeem:
Sun SparcStation Ultra 10
440MHz UltraSparcIIi CPU, 1GB RAM
9GB HDD (IDE), USB kaart, SunPCI II en PCI SCSI/Ethernet kaart

OS:
SunOS 5.10 Version Generic_118822-19 64bit (aka Solaris 10)


Dit systeem draaide al een tijdje goed, maar omdat ik hogere resoluties op 24b kleur wilde en bovendien een 13W3 monitor wilde aansluiten heb ik een Creator3D kaart geregeld (gaat in de UPA slot op het moederbord, een destijds high-end 3D kaart voor Ultra 10, 30 en 60 workstations)

Alles aangesloten, OBP opent in de 13W3 monitor, maar dan:

Can't find driver for console framebuffer

Vervolgens gaat OBP verder met het booten van Solaris tot het bij de Desktop Login komt, dan doet dit scherm niets meer...

...maar gaat de oude onboard VGA (m64) via DB15 vrolijk de grafische login tonen.


OK, geen drivers geinstalleerd, wat dan...

- volgens http://www.sun.com/bigadm...submitted/add_device.html zou het volgende moeten gebeuren:

When adding a new device, you must consider whether the system will accept a "hot swap" or whether the system must be powered down prior to adding the new hardware. After installing the new device, the Solaris OS has many ways to declare the new device, such as:

1. In Open Boot PROM, use: boot -r
2. With your OS online, you can reboot your system with this flag:
reboot -- -r
(The system boots with the -r flag as it does with boot -r.)
3. Execute these commands: drvconfig, devlinks, disks

Of course, only one of the above is needed to add your new device. With each method, the system scans for a new device with the drvconfig command and later makes new links. If you have less system administration experience, try the first or the second choice.

OK, dat gedaan (met zowel drvconfig als devlinks), beide zonder meldingen uitgevoerd. Maar nog geen drivers.

Daarna op Sun.com op zoek gegaan naar een download. Niets kunnen vinden voor Solaris 10, wel voor 9:

Aangezien Solaris 9 drivers vaker op 10 werken (mijn SunPCI II draait er bijvoorbeeld mee...) heb ik deze geprobeerd te installeren met patchadd zoals per instructie, met volgende resultaat:

En dat was dat...

Niets is geinstalleerd, ik kan ook niet via ffbconfig de boel configgen en X boot nog steeds op de onboard m64


Twee vragen:
- concreet: heeft iemand een idee hoe deze Creator3d aan de praat te krijgen?
- abstracter: is er ergens een start-to-finish HOWTO over hoe apparaten te installeren in een bestaande Solaris systeem

Solaris installeert niet standaard alle drivers vanaf het installatiemedium. Installeer die packages (SUNWffb* oid) vanaf de installatiemedium.
Vergeet niet hierna te booten met -r of met een leeg /reconfigure bestandje.

Vergeet ook niet de accelerated drivers voor X (als je dat gebruikt) te installeren.

Dat was het inderdaad

SUNWffb.u (driver)
SUNWffpw (X window driver)
SUNWffbcf (config util)

Op CD1 (eerste 2) en CD2 (derde) gevonden.

Na install en reboot werkt het, ffbconfig doet exact wat hij moet doen en ik kan mijn systeem in mijn slaapkamer (met 13W3 20" monitor) dumpen als vervanging voor de SS20 die daar nu nog staat...

Soms is het gewoon zo simpel (maar moet je net die spullen weten te vinden ) Tnx.
